Ingenious design
Ok, so this review is actually about the Donner Hush-X. The compact design is like no other. I mean, without the brackets attached it fits in a bag you might put a couple baseball bats in. That slim. The brackets also fit in the provided carry bag and there are several pockets to put related items including the handy tuner Donner gifts to buyers of this guitar. A very clever strap is also included as our picks and several extra allen wrenches. A nice little amp cord as well and get this...some very cool earbuds. The earbuds fit nicely in the ear but Donner went one further and designed them so they are sound-tight. You'll have to see them to fully understand this. Now the important stuff: The neck is a shallow C shape similar to my Gilmore Strat. I'm not sure what the fretboard is made of ..I assume some cool polymer, but it's great. Lightning fast and it just feels right. Further, it's a full scale neck! You won't see that on many travel guitars. This thing plays like a full size. I was very apprehensive about the tuners. Guess what? I do some serious bending and the strings just stay in tune. My Traveler guitar has to be tuned about every time I pick it up. Not this Hush-X. It's remarkable. The action required a bit of tweaking. Many might like the standard string height but I wanted the action lower. Fortunately the bridge can be adjusted so I didn't have to do too much with the truss. The electronics are plenty good but I have to mess with the settings a bit more before I can do a write up on the electronics as a whole, but so far so good. I have an assortment of guitars but find myself playing this little guy a ton since it's arrival. I figured out how to hang it next to my bed by one of the brackets. My wife can be sound asleep next to me and I can play without waking her or stabbing her in the head with a headstock. So that's a plus. Speaking of brackets...these things are way more cool than they're pictured. They're sturdy, fit very securely and I couldn't ask for a better fit to my body as I hold the guitar. Standing, sitting , lying down...the brackets just work and it's great having a guitar of this size at my disposal. Trust me, buy one and you'll practice and play much more than you are currently playing. And that in itself is a huge and unforeseen bonus. I'm telling all my friends about this guitar. If you read my other reviews you'll see I do my best to tell it like it is. I should add that I had a couple questions about this guitar and the customer service person (Zoe) I emailed was quick to respond and was just incredibly helpful. Zoe was amazing and so is this little guitar. I suspect as word gets around the price of this guitar will go up.... I sincerely believe you'd be wise to buy yours today.

Very pleased with the guitar, as a travel guitar and silent practice guitar.
I am very pleased with the Donner HUSH Guitar for what it is and the specific application I purchased it for: to have a very portable travel guitar, with a full-scale neck, available for an upcoming trip. To keep your chops up and your repertoire stage-ready, over an extended trip, it's nice to have a travel guitar that breaks down this small — only 33 inches X 6 inches in it's case. There are several options for travel guitars: including guitars where the neck folds, or very small guitaralele's which have shorter necks and usually tune to a different scale. I've owned several other travel guitars. However, I want to play in the same key and have my fingers learning and practicing the same placement and stretches as my full-size guitars. I don't want a little tiny 1/2 or 3/4 size guitar that sounds like a child's first guitar. The Donner HUSH fits the bill perfectly. The fact that it is a silent guitar with a built-in headphone amp is a plus also. Traveling in a car I can play this short headless guitar and not bother anyone else in the car, even though I can hear it in headphones better than if I was trying to practice with a traditional acoustic guitar. With the braces removed and inside it's case, the guitar is so small I can't imagine not being able to carry it on a plane, which is the main reason I purchased it. Given the relatively low price, the quality and playability seem good to me. The sound in headphones isn't as refined as the Yahmaha silent guitar, but it doesn't cost as much and it breaks down to a smaller size. I've owned 2 Yamaha silent guitars, both the nylon string and the steel string. This time I chose this over the Yamaha, because it's smaller, more affordable, and all I am buying it for is a travel/practice guitar — period. It is a piezo-based acoustic sounding instrument, not like an electric guitar powered by magnetic pick-ups. With processing from pedals, an IR loader, compression, saturation, and reverb, I'm sure the sound could be brought up to a very respectable acoustic-guitar-like quality; but I probably won't ever perform in front of people with this guitar. It's about practicing silently and traveling. Although, if an opportunity demands it, the guitar will plug into any Bluetooth speaker with an 1/8th inch input, or a regular guitar amp's 1/4 inch input, so in a pinch, you could gig with it. Having said all that, now, after owning the guitar and playing it for a few weeks, there are a few improvements that I could suggest to the manufacturer — simple, inexpensive improvements that could raise the guitar's performance and value to a much higher level. I will probably work on that wish list and submit it directly to Donner, but again, I'm happy with the guitar.

This is beginner’s review
I bought this guitar with the intention of sparing my wife from having to endure my not-yet-perfected guitar skills. As a beginner of over 10 years, I already own two other acoustic guitars, but Donner is my first solid body guitar. My initial impression of the entire kit was that it's an excellent choice for beginners, as it comes with everything from a tuner to picks. The gig bag is well-made, featuring plenty of cushions and adequately sized compartments to keep all your gear organized in one place. One standout feature is that the kit includes batteries for both the guitar itself and the tuner, saving you the hassle of buying them separately. The guitar itself is crafted with high-quality materials and feels very well-made. The tuning pegs turn smoothly and responsively, making tuning a breeze. Within minutes of opening the box, I was able to start playing. I've even included a video with this review to give you an idea of its sound from the audience's perspective. It's not too quiet, but with a closed door in a room, others shouldn't hear it too loudly. However, I must admit that the promotional video is a bit misleading—it might wake a sleeping baby if you start strumming nearby. Now, let me share my thoughts on how it feels to actually play the guitar. Keep in mind that I'm just a beginner, so take my opinions with a generous grain of salt. I found the included guitar-shaped metal piece to be somewhat impractical. Attaching and screwing it into place takes a few minutes, and without the screws, the bottom piece can rotate and occasionally come off. Since I take this guitar with me to work daily for 15-20 minute sessions, the attachment process eats into my playing time, especially when I want to play fingerstyle while sitting down. The guitar strap is included, but the attachment holes are standard size, and one of the attachment points on the guitar doubles as an output jack, making it larger in diameter than normal. This made attaching the strap a bit challenging, and I ended up leaving it attached all the time, even when storing it in the carrying bag. Unfortunately, this caused the bag to not close properly if I wasn't careful, and the metal buckle on the strap ended up scratching the guitar while in transit. The weight distribution of the guitar is also a bit unusual for me. The two connection points of the strap are very close together, making the neck feel much heavier than the body. As a result, I find myself holding up the neck even during brief pauses, which can be tiring. Lastly, the guitar's shape doesn't offer many options for placing your palm while picking or doing light strumming. While it's not overly difficult to get used to, I thought it was worth mentioning. Despite these cons, the few pros of this guitar outweigh them all. It's compact, lightweight, and incredibly easy to transport. It appears to be durable, and I can practice almost anywhere, anytime. Plus, the price is reasonable, making it a great option for beginners. If you're considering this guitar, I suggest considering whether your situation is similar to mine and if the issues I've mentioned are things you can tolerate or adapt to. However, I can honestly say that I have no regrets about buying this guitar, and I hope my review has been helpful to you. Cheers, everyone!

Ideal for travel practice as a beginner.
This review is of the Donner Hush Acoustic version where the passive pickup is under the bridge. I watched several online reviews before buying, most were positive and I agree that this is an excellent product and well worth the relatively inexpensive price (Under $250). First the cons...Minor, but noticeable. The fretboard feels slightly smaller than my Ibanez acoutic but still close enough to be barely noticeable. The headphones cord seems to snag and pull from my ears more often than I like. The shape arms help, but the thin body makes it a little awkward to balance across your leg when playing. Recommend using provided dual-purpose strap on case for better support. The Pros...This guitar is exactly what I needed. Its small size travels easily, and setup takes only a couple of minutes. It holds its tuning fairly well and the store-in-body allen key makes assembly/disassembly and tuning adjustments a breeze. The provided electronic tuner is a little tricky to attach. I clip to the lower bar where the string vibrations seem to work best. The headphones are decent quality and sound good. A battery, a few guitar picks and extra screws for attaching the shape bars are included. The case is padded, holds guitar and all accesories securely and safely. As mentioned above, the case strap performs double duty as a gutar strap also. The guitar has an amplifier cord jack, but I mainly use with headphones for quiet practicing. (Sep 2025 update: I have tested the 1/4" jack with my new Spark Go mini-amp and it works great for travelling). The string action height is very good. I love it and the price is great! I highly recommend this for beginning players where practice is a daily necessity. You won't be disappointed!

Good option but the action needs lowered.
I love the size and the portability of this guitar but my problem with it is the action is very high and it hurts my fingers to okay. If Donner can make this more playable then it would be a perfect solution to the frequent traveler.

Updated Review
Updated review: Donner Customer Service really bent over backwards. They were sure the original guitar I received was defective and they sent me a replacement. It is truly a different instrument. No high e-string string buzz, good action height (I adjusted it 1/8 CCW turn to add some relief). Strings even seem to be heavier gage and sound better. This is now a very usable instrument. Very light. Well made. Innovative. Although it creates acoustic tones, it's important to keep in mind that this is amplified sound through an electric signal and so dialing tone (usually the world of electric guitars) applies somewhat here. Unlike an acoustic guitar that has its own sound that your ears hear with no intermediate adjustments, the acoustic tones of this guitar can vary quite dramatically when using the supplied buds, versus plugged into an acoustic amp, or with tone adjustments at the amp or multi-effects device. I love the sound using my Mustang Micro plugged into the 1/4" jack with reverb and a '65 twin amp simulator into over the ear headphones. The tone is pretty good through the supplied ear buds, but not as pleasing. With amplified sound, you'll hear every mis-fretted note more than usual. That may turn out to be a good thing as it is direct feedback on fretting technique. Finally, I'm not a fan of the neck profile. It's chunkier than any of the acoustics I own. More of a D shape than a C shape. I suspect it is better for those players that properly keep their thumb firmly on the back side of the neck. But I often reach my thumb to the top string to fret notes and the chunkier neck actually makes this more difficult. Not a huge deal. I'll get used to it. All in all, I really like this guitar. It will be a great travel guitar or for playing when others aren't interested in hearing me. Original review: I looked at soooo many Youtube reviews and read so many reviews before buying this. My expectations were high! However, I should have paid more attention to the reviews that described the need for a setup on this guitar before it was ready to play. If you like me are not one of those people who know how to do a professional setup, then you might be frustrated like I was. I can see why some people have given very positive reviews...great concept, very portable and light, great design, good customer support, etc....but these couldn't overcome the negatives for me. The high e-string buzzed badly at the bridge notch. The space between the strings and fretboard (action) was extreme, unlike any of the other four acoustic guitars I own - high bridge and concave fretboard. Tone was not that pleasing to me through their earphones or through my acoustic amp (tone was not terrible, but not pleasant to me but I suspect slightly heavier strings would have made a big difference).

You get what you pay for. This thing is pretty much junk.
I've been playing for 50 years and have owned a ton of guitars. Down to about 50 in my current arsenal. I have a great Journey OF660 carbon fiber travel guitar, but the Donner and the Yamaha silent guitar intrigued me. The Donner is tiny in comparison to the Yamaha, so it will actually fit in a large suitcase. The piezo sounded like a piezo, but that's to be expected. BUT..... the guitar arrived unplayable. I watched a bunch of video reviews (they probably all got them for free and are nothing more than shills, but some were really incompetent and didn't even know what they were demonstrating. None mentioned playability issues. The action on this guitar when it arrived was 3.5mm. Way too high! I contacted Donner and 5 days later still no response. I sent it back, even at the prime day price. I adjusted the truss rod which was completely loose and even sanded the saddle, but the action could not be lowered enough to be good enough to play. As I said above, the guitar is tiny. Even with the uncomfortable metal "body" pieces attached, it was too small and uncomfortable to play. Even if the action was better. On top of that, they claim the guitar is made of maple and (or?) mahogany. Honestly it looks like press wood. Maybe it's just the finish that sucks, but looking in the holes I don't think these are solid wood. More like sawdust and resin. Then there's the tuning key issue. They should have just copied Steinberger's tuners rather than require (and it really is required) a an allen wrench. I also felt that the bolts that held the body pieces would strip sooner rather than later. Despite the attractiveness of the price and travel size, it just wasn't worth keeping. Take the youtube demos with a grain of salt.

Ridiculously great
I'm not a guitar neophyte, but this is my first travel guitar, and I'm very happy with the purchase, and at this price, this Donner guitar is a great deal. It arrived very well packed. I popped in the 9 volt, screwed in the metal "wings", tuned it, and was off to the races. The guitar is very well made, every component looks good and feels solid. The headphones sound really good and don't feel chintzy at all. practicing with the headphones is very pleasant, which is important since (almost) no one's gonna gig with this or practice with it through an amp, although it does that very well. The tuner is basic but accurate. I played the guitar through a regular 50 watt amp. All good there. The case is well-built, not a throw away like so many tend to be. The case strap doubles as a guitar strap, and it's also well made. You get the idea. I love this thing. Donner reminds me of another Chinese company that punches far above its weight-class: Anker. Both produce very capable, quality products that perform well. Get it while it's on sale. Cheers.
