Work well
I love locking tuners. They're one of the best things you can do for your guitar. Especially if, like me, you have way too many of them and you're really lazy about restringing. With locking tuners, restringing a guitar takes - at most - 10 minutes. If you're trying to go slow. I have Sperzel locking tuners on all my other guitars, but figured I'd give these a try - the auto-trim seemed interesting. To be honest, I don't feel that it's a vital feature. I did see another reviewer say it didn't always work for him, and another reviewer wrote about holding the string a certain way. I didn't do anything special and it just worked. I can see how you might need to bend the string back a bit. But again, as I said, not a big deal. Now, I did have one string pop back out on me while tuning. AFTER being cut. With my other locking tuners, hand-tightening the nut is enough to keep the string in place. Maybe I wasn't paying attention, or maybe these guys just need to be tightened extra-hard. Once again, probably not an actual problem and I was able to get the string back in there and it hasn't popped back out yet, so... One thing about replacing your guitar's tuning pegs with locking tuners - and this is true for the six guitars I've done this on (which were a mix of acoustic, electric and a banjo) and no matter which brand I use. I've never, ever been able to use the original screw holes that the original tuning pegs used. This means you'll be drilling tiny holes in your guitar. I've also never had the good fortune of having the new tuners cover up the original holes, so I've been putting the original screws back in. Looks less silly than having holes in the headstock. Again, this is not specific to these guys, but I thought anyone considering this operation might want to know. UPDATE: I have now used several sets of strings with these tuners, and WITHOUT FAIL one of them eventually flies out while tuning, usually after the thing has cut the excess string off so it's REALLY HARD to get the thing back in there. This is even worse with coated strings. I find that I absolutely cannot manually tighten the nuts, I have to use pliers to give it an extra turn.

This is basically a quality of life upgrade for my guitar
Background: I'm a complete guitar n00b, barely 6 weeks playing. I really suck at changing strings. I am not sloppy and I am not impatient, but I find the process unnerving. After the last time that I broke a string during a simple change I couldn't take it anymore and decided to pick up locking tuning machines. To my delight, I found that the auto-trim tuning machines had dropped in price. Installation was absolutely painless. I probably spent more time digging for the drill bit that I needed since my screw holes did not match. I would say that even including measuring and drilling, it was less than 5 minutes per tuner. And oh do they work. The first snip (6th string) was a bit scary. By the time I had done the 5th string I had figured out how far out of tune each string would be after the string snip. I actually missed the snip on the 4th string, turned it back a little bit, pushed the string down so it would touch the edge, tried it again and it worked. So yeah, you have to make sure that when you start turning it, the string is going to hit the cutting edge. Tuning was a non-event, this is probably my fastest string change and tune to date. And yes, I still need to fill and clean the old screw holes, but this is an inexpensive guitar and it doesn't bother me. Would I buy these again? Absolutely, I am already looking forward to pick up the inline-6 version for my Squier Affinity Telecaster. The only real question is if I'll let these go when I get rid of this guitar or will I switch back the original tuners so I can reuse these on another guitar.

Excellent tuners with functional string snip
These tuners are the best I’ve used. Even the tuning grips feel great. Will be replacing them on all my guitars. The string trim works after you lick the sting in the tuners as begin winding. Works perfect and no need to snip! ALSO: this might be a no-brainer for boast, but make sure you leave some slack before locking the tuner and then rotating it to initiate the snip. I like to pull the string tight, then pull it back about one fret worth of length, then lock the tuner, and begin tightening

Great upgrade. A couple of caveats when replacing cheap tuners.
I wanted to upgrade the tuners on my cheap guitar, but not pay 75% of the cost of the guitar to get locking tuners. Truth be told, the only thing wrong with the old ones is they were made of a cheap metal which began corroding. But they were rock-solid in holding tune. I digress. What you need to know is that the holes necessary for these are 10 mm. And the hole must be 10 mm all the way through the headstock. On my cheap guitar for OE, they used unbranded 10 mm tuners that didn't reach all the way through the headstock like these do for the trimming mechanism. I had overspray from the finish inside the holes preventing the new ones from seating which I had to carefully sand out with #120 emery paper wrapped around a smaller drill bit. Also, the holes for the tiny screws that secure the tuners to the headstock didn't precisely line up. I had to redrill the holes. Some hardwood slivers cut to size and glue fixed that. Great value. I'm sure on a decently made guitar that has decent OE these will fit perfectly.

Really nice auto trim tuners, easy to fit, and they look great and if you're guitarist who hates changing strings because you're a lazy musician like me, then I recommend a set!

Used to replace tuners on my esp Ltd ec-500 they where exact fit plug and play tuners other than the tiny hole on the back but you don't need to sell that if you properly ratchet the top nut on. Anyway as far as the runners go they are awesome they lock easily and the automatic trimmer is wicked I wish I had the in all my guitars I'm doing a full build on the ec-500 so being able to swap strings quickly is a huge plus.
