This is one really great clock radio!
Alarm clocks come in all sizes and shapes with all kinds of different features. I actually didn't want an alarm clock for myself, but rather my wife wanted a radio to use in the kitchen. I got her this one because it looked like it might be easier to use than her last one and also because she has poor vision and the picture showed nice large numbers. But when it came she told me she only wanted a radio, not an alarm clock. So, rather than send it back, I decided to swap it for my old alarm clock which was adequate but wasn't anything to rave about. This clock though, is something to rave about. This is the first clock I have ever owned that accurately and easily sets the local time all by itself! You just set the correct time zone and a few seconds later the right time is displayed. Nice. It also has two different alarms. That lets you set alarms for your work week and also for the weekend. I get up at 5 am during the week. On the weekends I sleep in till 8. I have both alarms set and I'm able to pick only M-F for one alarm and only Sat-Sun for the other alarm. As an old TV ad used to say, "Just set it and forget it!" Controlling the alarm when it goes off is easy too. If you do nothing it will turn off by itself after 10 minutes I believe. If you want it to snooze, just tap the front of the silver colored plate on the top and it will start the alarm again in a few minutes and if you want to turn off the alarm completely, just tap a button on the left side of the top and it goes silent until the next time that alarm should sound. Other nice features include an easy to turn on and off radio function that also has room for several preset stations. The clock numbers are cyan in color, which is easy to see. Plus there are 3 different levels of brightness for the numbers (really bright, medium, and dim) which you can change just by tapping a switch on the top of the clock. Speaking of the top of the clock, if you tap the back of the top plate it turns on/off a bright night light that is on the bottom of the clock. And you can also charge a phone or bluetooth device with a handy usb power connection on the back. And there is also an AUX plug on it, although I can't recall if it is AUX out or in. Haven't felt the need to use that function yet. And finally, like most good alarm clocks, this one has a place you can install a battery, so that you won't be late to work should there be a power outage where you live.

Very configurable clock
Great clock because: 1. It auto dims as the room darkens 2. You can set the starting level of the alarm volume and it will get louder until you shut it off (I have mine set to 11 and it takes me about 30 seconds to hear it) 3. Two alarms so I don't need to reset the alarm time based on the day and my varying wake up times 4. USB port for phone charger is on the back of the clock where it won't block the screen 5. Automatically sets time once you set the date. 6. Backup battery is an installed Lithium. No 9V silliness here It does everything I need it to do and for a good price.

Fantastic alarm clock, not a great speaker.
Product received: Jul 29, 2020 Original date of this review: Aug 22, 2020 I recently lost my last alarm clock after 10 years of faithful service, this is my first one since then. I honestly think I should've switched sooner because this is an awesome product! You plug it in and it automatically sets the date and time (You may still need to adjust to the correct time out of the box but after that it should be fine). It has not just one but 2 alarms you can set (either for the entire week, just weekdays or just weekends, sat/sun). It has a nice, fat snooze button in the middle so you don't have to feel around too long to find it if you're just waking up. It seems to pick up really clear radio signals; I counted around 16 working channels with a wide variety of music and whatnot. The Bluetooth pairing works flawlessly so far, it's quite quick to connect and doesn't have any trouble staying connected. The range doesn't seem too great, though. The jack for the Aux cord works great as well if you don't want to connect via Bluetooth. Finally, the nightlight seems good. I hate having lights on at night but I did test to see how bright it was anyway. Gives a good amount of light in what would otherwise be a pitch-black room. It's not bright enough to navigate efficiently, but if you're just looking for a little bit of light to fill the room, this should be fine. Now some gripes I have with this product. First off, I kind of like the simplicity of the hardware, but considering how many functions it has, that also leads to some, in my opinion, minor downsides. For example, if you're listening to anything via Bluetooth/radio/aux, you can't change the display lightning, or check/change your alarms' settings. Also, I don't really listen to radio very often and I much rather use Bluetooth than aux to listen to music, but I can't really use the sleep mode if I want to do this. It does work in the sense that it turns off the Bluetooth, but the music continues playing on my phone after it shuts itself off automatically. It thankfully doesn't do this if I turn it off manually, but this is kind of a useless function, my case.. Finally, the sound quality. It's standard radio sound quality. It has a tiny little section in the back for minimal fidelity sound, but that's it. I tested the range and it only reaches down to around 70Hz with a steep drop off in volume afterwards, though still barely audible down to around 30Hz, and reaches up to around 15,000Hz on the high end, completely cutting out at that point. It also buzzes a bit at certain low frequencies. I've managed to force some decent sound out of it with an equalizer, but in the long run it just makes it quieter. The speaker does get decently loud if you're in doors, but it doesn't travel very far if you're listening to music outside. Conclusion: If you're looking for an alarm clock with a speaker, this is an amazing product. If you're looking for a speaker with alarm clock functionalities, look elsewhere.

Hunk of Junk and Emerson didn't stand behind it
UPDATE: I have downgraded my original rating for this Emerson Smartset alarm clock from 5 stars to 1. Won't buy another. After 2 months use, the clock did not accurately reset after a power interruption. I chalked it up to possibly an old battery and replaced the battery with a new one. Another power interruption a couple of months later and the clock again did not automatically reset AND one of the digital number light bars no longer lit. Thinking I maybe had a bad battery, I bought another new battery, put it in and this piece of junk still did not accurately reset the time nor did the bar light come back on. I called Emerson customer service and while they acknowledged the problem was probably a fuse within the clock, too bad for me because their warranty is only 90 days. Emerson did not stand behind their faulty product, so I was out of luck and the clock went from new out of the box to the garbage can in less than 7 months. PLEASE DISREGARD MY PRIOR 5-STAR REVIEW BELOW.... I have an Emerson Smartset clock/radio and another Smartset alarm clock that have never let me down and are so old they were purchased prior to the era when dates were changed to extend daylight savings time. While my old Smartset clock radio and alarm clock are still perfectly functional, they are big compared to newer models with advanced technology in a more compact size. There was no question that I would come back for another Emerson Smartset when it was time to upgrade. The automatic atomic time set is the best feature. Just plug it in and you have the correct time. Power outage? no problem; it resets itself to the correct time as soon as power is restored. Preset for Eastern Time zone, clocks can easily be programmed for other time zones and instructions are included. The big aqua blue digital numbers are soothing, much easier to read and softer on the eyes than my old clock radio with small, red digits. The nightlight base, which can be used optionally, is an added bonus. So far, I am just as happy with the new version of the Emerson Smartset clock radio as I was with my original one and if it lasts as long as my old models, I will be thrilled!

Love This Alarm Clock
As everyone is abandoning their alarm for their mobile phone, I still like a clock with an alarm sitting bedside. I use the alarm everyday for work. Every 5 to 10 years I need to purchase a new alarm clock and since I hate waking up early, I want my alarm clock to be as civilized and user friendly as possible. This may be the best one yet. I don't use the USB charger that it has or tge radio too much, but the clock and alarm are outstanding. The clock is a radio wave device so it sets itself automatically and adjust to the government tampering with our daylight savings. The dim feature on the display is great, because it'll get really dim. You can see it in the dark, but it definitely won't disturb anyone. It even has an extremely dim nightlight that will provide a dim glow to the area surrounding the unit. There's a dual alarm, and tge best feature is the alarm volume is progressive. Meaning it starts of barely audible and progressively gets louder unless you turn it off or snooze it first. It's much kinder than a loud siren startling you out of a deep sleep every morning. The unit is compact but the display is a nice size and easily readable. I was quite impressed.. I would recommend this product.

Not perfect, but pretty good for the price
This clock is close to what I was looking for. The radio is reasonably decent, the alarms are easy to set with wake to radio, it doesn't need to be reset after a power outage. Unlike some other reviewers, I find the dim setting dim enough. I had covered my previous clock with automotive window tinting because it was so bright, but didn't feel the need to do that to this one. There are some things I don't like: - The radio has volume settings 00 through (some large number). 00 is off (why did they bother?), and 01 is louder than I want even for the alarm. I might need to open it up and add some impedance to the speaker. - The alarm starts at volume setting 03 and quickly increases from there, so it's a pretty unpleasant blast to wake to. - It does have a USB charging port, but if I use it to charge my phone, the radio reception gets horrible. - The clock 'auto sets' through an internal battery running the clock, so it still drifts to the wrong time, and if they ever change (or get rid of) daylight saving, it will set itself incorrectly. I have about 9 wi-fi connected appliances in the house that are always at the correct time and I'm amazed that I can't find an alarm clock that uses wi-fi to keep itself set.

Nice clock with lots of features and some minor concerns
I did a lot of research on the clocks at Amazon before buying. There are a couple of no name clocks with very high reviews but wanted to stick with a known brand. The clock packs a lot of features for it's are. Very easy to read numbers and nice night light. The radio reception and ability to store stations are great. The blue tooth also are a really nice feature. Some people complained about the sound being tinny but what are you really expecting out of a clock radio? For the price and size it has a decent sound for radio and bluetooth. Not having to readjust the time when the power goes out or when unplugging and for day light savings time is a great feature. My 2 main complaints mentioned in other reviews are 1) it's not easy to program and if you forget you have to keep the manual, the good news is once you setup your favorite radios and alarms the first time there isn't much of a need to keep setting it up 2) if you are setting up the alarm with the radio, it gets very loud very quickly and there is no way to cap the sound volume like the manual stated. Overall it's a great clock with many features not found in other clocks when a known brand just be aware of the cons
