Works as expected
Couldn’t have asked for a better product. Needed this to fill in some blemishes on door frames and baseboards, and it works perfectly. Easy to use. Smooth application. Dried fast. Sands well, no odor, and easily painted to match the rest. Will buy this again if I need more.

DAP Plastic Latex Wood Filler -- easy, effective, economical
Impressive for an Amazon Add-on-Item...I used this to fill old nail and screw holes, cracks and smaller missing wood sections on redwood railings and balusters. Spreads well, smooth. The results were perfect -- the filler sanded flush (I used an orbital, 5 seconds per hole), and then stained the entire railing. No priming needed. The end result was a smooth surface, no detectable surface irregularities. This filler spreads well, but over the course of several weeks (or repeated opening of its plastic container that does not seal all that well) it begins to dry out, gets kind of crumbly. The remedy is to dip your putty knife in some mineral spirits (just wet it), then remix the filler. Repeat (dip and mix) until the end result regains its flexible consistency -- it should spread like butter.. I found this remedy can be done repeatedly.Filler dries to an almond color, so I recommend a solid stain/paint or else this will likely show through unless you are finishing with a darker solid color.Filler shows NO sign of shrinkage, and accepts my dark solid stains just fine (oil based Cabot). In fact, when the railing is re-installed there is no apparent sign it has been renovated.Putty knife: Amazon Add-on-Item Wagner Pro-Grip Flex Putty Knife 1 1/2 inches (recommended)https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000I1QDXO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Gotta love plastic wood
The stuff is easy. It smells like garbage but it fills holes and is easy to apply. Dries fast, sands easy - yeah, it's noticeable, but once you paint over it or otherwise hide it, it'll do what it should od.

Fills the bill!
Also holes. A woodpecker notched out about 5 different size hole the largest about 2 inches in diameter in my shed. This product filled all the holes including this large hole without "pulling away" from the original wood siding like some other wood fillers I tried in the past. This was applied by finger and cleanup was a snap! I wish I would have found this product earlier and saved all that money on other products that didn't work half as good!

Perfect for filling holes left by carpenter bees
Carpenter bees made over a dozen 1/4 inch holes in my soffit area. After getting rid of the pests I used this to fill in the holes. It was easy to apply and dried hard with no second application needed. As a bonus this happened to match my paint color exactly, so no paint touch up needed either.

The area that was filled did not act like real wood
It's just okay. I have bifold doors and the hole for the pivot joints were drilled too large. I used the product to fill the hole and then redrilled the right size. The area that was filled did not act like real wood. It crumble and did not make a clean hole. However, it will do for now. I would probably not buy this product again. Especially for the purpose I stated.

Gets mushy in damp areas and then grows mold.
Don't bother. Please take a look at the photo. installed a small amount on the wood in the photo a month ago. sands ok, planes ok but don't let it get wet! I ran a screwdriver through it and it acts like bread dough!I filled in a rotted door jam and it seemed to be working great until it rained. Now it is mushy and growing mold.I would try something else outdoors.
