Canon PIXMA TR7620a

Very pleased with this purchase. I have to hold on to my quick start guide and ludicrous to have to punch in the password selected by the printer. I just stayed with the default password that it picked. Generally speaking it does all I need to and then some. A good guide, and I have a TR7620a, is using a search engine equipped with Co Pilot or other AI. it has been quite useful i.e, printing on index cards to make study flash cards for my notes. And very happy with this purchase overall.

Hardwire first then wifi

I'm a 70 year old Grandma. Computer literate but not a genius. That said, the setting up of the printer itself was easy peasy. There were a number of reviews that dinged the lcd having to be up to print. I'm guessing, but it seems like whoever designed it supposed the user would be in a standing position, like in an office setting, not sitting down at a desk. So the user would have to be in a kneeling position to view the lcd in a vertical position. Hence, the flipping up of the lcd. Second, unlike my old Canon printer that fed from the bottom, the 8620 feeds photo paper, etc from the TOP. As a result, the paper has to be put in glossy side toward you, not facing down. So save yourself some paper. As far as I can tell, photo paper HAS to be fed from the top. It will tell you to flip the feed cover down. Which means right in front of the paper there's a narrow plastic piece. Flip it down and it actually tells me what kind of paper I was using and asked if that was correct? Premium Phot Paper Glossy II. I use Canon paper, so that may or not work with other papers. The few photos I printed so far are amazing! HP is all Wally World carrys and I never had much luck with that. I recently purchased Canon 4 x 6 on Amazon 400 sheets for about $33. So who needs the cheap stuff? As far as the connecting to the wifi is concerned, it is NOT intuitive and involved me on my phone Googling a bunch of stuff. I have three computers. An old pc Windows 7 (garage sale find for $35) a much older laptop I bought years ago Windows 7 I keep around because of a couple programs I absolutely love which there are no updates for. Finally I got a laptop (garage sale $30 last years) Windows 10. The printer does support all of those but you have to have the correct drivers for each.Next, hardwire the printer with your first/possibly only computer. Yes, hardwire. There will be a little message in the computer lower right corner about hardware being added and do yo want to download/install updates? Duh! I did this with each of my computers separately. Took maybe 15 minutes each and I have streaming quality wifi. It will tell you your printer is ready to go. But..it really isn't yet.One at a time..Google how to go into your computer and find your list of printers. Control Panel, Windows X, etc. Because you still have the printer hardwired, there will be a picture of the 8600 on there. There might be one that says 8600 Fax but I will never use it. If you've already downloaded and installed the updates, on the first computer, it will just be 8600. Select it as your default printer. Done with that for hardwiring. I then did the same to the other two computers. Because you already have one of 8600 because of hardwiring and software updates, etc., it will give another name 8600 COPY 2. Click ADD PRINTER and choose COPY 2.But before you start printing anything, you have to set up the wifi (NOT hardwire) Start with the printer LCD. I used the quick connect, then a bunch of other options, but it eventually gave me a list of available wifi networks like your phone does. Choose yours. Enter the password if it asks. At one point, the printer gave me a connection key. I honestly don't remember how and once set up, I couldn't figure out how to go back to make a list. Anyway, that will get your PRINTER on the wifi network. However, on the resulting wifi list, it will give you your wifi and a separate printer wifi. It won't let you connect to both at once. Grrr! I have a network/homegroup. It has to be set to SHARE files, etc. Google it on each of your computers and get that set up as you go.As far as adding different computers to the PRINTER wifi, I did that last. You don't have to choose the printer on your wifi list like on your phone you choose it by adding a wifi printer to your NETWORK/Homegroup, etc. I disconnected the hardwire. On my Windows 7 I clicked START, Control panel, Network sharing, Homegroup. See Homegroup password. Write it down, then Google how to connect your computer to a network wifi. Each computer is different. Yes, I know you already added the printer before to the list of printers by connecting it hardwire and by adding software updates. But what I thought it was asking me to do is simply to choose one, not to hardwire print, but to WIFI print. Sooo.when I went back to ADD A PRINTER on the printer list, I chose 8600 COPY 2. When it added it, it asked me if I wanted to do a test print, and OMG it worked. Google is your friend, folks. Use it!When you actually print a picture you will need to pay attention to the WHICH PRINTER option you use as far as wifi is concerned. 8600 or 8600 COPY 2. COPY 2 is used for both my second and third computers to print wireless. No COPY 3 .I also had three separate old and defunct printers on the list so in the process I had to delete them from the list and uninstall them. One of the others was also a Canon, so that may have been part of my issue, not sure.My last printer was a Canon 7120 and was nearly 9 years old when it died. No question I would get another Canon. But I Googled to find out which Canon I could afford and which printed the best photos in 2023 reviews. This 8620 was ranked number 2 in top ten on photos. For only about $140, Wow! I don't care about speed of printing, I'm retired, and didn't worry about sound. I looked at mega tank printers, but in the long run decided I didn't print enough to make all that ink drying up in between necessary.I'm also an author so at some point I need quick black and white documents. If this 8620 is slow on that, I may pay for a $50 cheap printer that does it faster.

VERY NICE PRINTER

This Canon printer is very nice. It offers options that are not available with smaller, less sophisticated printers. Yet it is not so fancy that it becomes a problem. Relatively easy to use for an old lady not competent in computer. I love the option for printing backgrounds along with text, and the availability of two paper feed sections. The automatic turn-off feature saves energy. Ink tank holds colors as well as black ink; the color has run out rather quickly. Low-slung design helps with placement on a counter or shelf.

WORST PRINTER & PHONE APP EVER!!

This will be my very first 1 star review, but I cannot help myself.I spend days and weeks researching every printer I've ever bought. I was in a bit of a hurry and only spent a few hours looking around before deciding on this one. HUGE mistake. The reason it is affordable is because it's not even worth the current price.I already own a strictly for photos printer and needed something for my home office/personal use. Canon has done good by me and the past, and it was at least 4 stars, so should be fine, right? SO Wrong. The set up was fairly simple but getting my phone connected to it was a straight nightmare. Even after it successfully connected, it consistently gave me a no "no printer available" warning the entire 1.5 hours I spent on it.1.5 hours to print ONE document. The app is absolutely trash. Seriously the worst, slowest, least user friendly device app I have ever encountered, printer or otherwise. It took FOR-EV-ER every single time I selected any option the made the app connect to the printer. Every single time, ever single option I chose. Even selecting "Printer Status" took over 7 minutes to simple tell me it was online. But the best part was the quality, for sure. I needed to print a single document. Just 1. It took me over an hour to print a just halfway decent copy. The black ink look ash gray in the first few copies, and not very black by 6 (the aforementioned halfway decent print which i decided to accept and be done).I got a "Printer Block"error, after error, over and over and over again, with no block to be found anywhere. The last copy I printer was no even very good, let alone great. The ink was dull and much more gray then black. I was able to FINALLY remove the page borders the printer kept inserting despite the settings corrections I did MULTIPLE times, but the only way I got them removed was through a third party app that adjusted the dimensions. In other words it dumbed it down so even this garbage printer couldn't justify another useless copy.I almost never leave bad reviews, but I could not live with myself if I didn't warn any future possible buyers to TURN BACK.Oh and after 5 copies my ink was almost halfway gone, just for the cherry on top.If you are considering giving this device a chance, one more time, It is a TRICK, Don't do it!
