Staying cool in NJ
Even better than my last Sunpentown air conditioner. I loved that old model one, but I gave it to the lady next door because she didn't have one. So I got this newer model, and I love it. I keep it on the energy saver mode and it comes on whenever it needs to be cool in here. I live in a 2 bedroom cottage. I have this in one end of the house, and a 5000 btu Kenmore in the bedroom, and together they make this place very comfortable. The comparable Frigidaire did not keep it cool enough. It's been exceptionally hot in NJ this summer, and this air conditioner has been spectacular!A few tips: 1) This makes a noise that is like rushing air (not vibration like Frigidaires seem to make) so you may not want to have it in a window directly near where you are going to be sitting. Plus it's pretty cold so if you sit too close you will get cold. I keep it on 70 and it works well to cool several rooms very comfortably (as in, I wear a light hoodie, and my long haired cats are comfortable). Since I don't need to be near it, I don't hear it but I still feel cool. 2) This is somewhat heavy. I brought the box in with my handtruck, then opened the box around the air conditioner while it was on the floor. Then I prepared it for the window, prepared the window for it, and picked it up and put it in by myself. I do not recommend that for a small person. I am a 5'8" woman, but if you are not that tall or strong, you will definitely need a person to help you. They will need to help for about an hour (bring it in, set it up with the parts on it, and then help you insert and screw it into the window.) 3. To get rid of the "foot" odor that some air conditioners get, all you have to do is pull the little lever that is by the louvres on top out one notch. It will click once. Run it like that for 5 or 10 minutes. It cleans out the air conditioner smell. I do this a few times per week and it has worked every time. But remember only let it click once, and don't forget to push it all the way back to its "closed" position after you air it out. (If you pull it and it clicks twice you put it on fan and it will be bringing in air from outside.) So, I hope you like this as much as I do. l really like Sunpentown air conditioners and I will be continuing to use them in the future.

I love it! It functions super quiet and vibration is ...
I bought this unit to replace a lower BTU unit in my living room/dining room area which is probably around 800 square feet. Because my home has no central air and my windows are only 24" wide, it was important for me to get the strongest unit that would fit the window as I'm not a fan of indoor A/C units. SPT is a relatively unknown brand and also priced above the competition. However, because the competition has always failed me, I chose to give this brand a chance. In regards to the functionality of the unit, the air is ICE-COLD. I love it! It functions super quiet and vibration is minimal. A ton better than the competition. It is quite heavy so you may need assistance. And even though it's only recommended for 450-550 square feet, it has done a great job cooling 800 with an additional fan to help circulate the air. I will add that the panel looks outdated (white on Beige/Tan gives it an old look) and like most A/C units, the directional louvers meant to direct air are terrible. The air still blows straight for the most part with maybe an inch improvement with the louver. A lot of air hits my couch that sits half below the vent a foot away.I'm only deducting 1 star because the first unit that arrived did not function. It arrived in perfect physical condition but a leak was apparent as it was covered in greasy oily substance. I tested the unit and the compressor could not cool. I called SPT and they were happy to replace the unit but the process took a few weeks. I managed to keep the house cool by keeping two bedroom units running so this did cost me more money and time than I anticipated. Customer service was "okay" but there was clear miscommunication at certain points.Overall, I'm happy I have a working unit and feel that it will last longer than the competition due to it's smooth operation.

Excellent unit for the money, with a few caveats
I now own 2 of model WA-1222S and 1 of thr slightly older WA-1211S model. They changed a few things mechanically to make this updated model slightly more efficient, but from what I can tell, the controls are the same. These ACs work very well, but be sure to inspect the bottom for damage / cracks when it arrives. I had one replaced as it clearly suffered from some poor handling and the heavy internals had shifted and cracked the bottom metal plate, which is not what you want on something that you plan to have for years to come. The features are great ... be sure to keep the manual around to explain the various modes and logic, as well as take particular note of the intake / exhaust open & shut lever. This will vary by region, but in my normally humid area, I keep the both closed to keep from pumping in humid external air during the "fan" cycle. The cooling capacity is what you would expect from a 12k btu unit, which is to say pretty impressive. If I had to find faults, I would say that the housing build quality is not super impressive (plastic FRONT panel, but the entire body is metal), the internal filter fits a bit oddly over the intake area and the "beep" the unit makes when any button is pressed is extremely loud, so adjustments in the middle of the night may wake up your partner. Overall, an excellent value and well performing option that should last for years to come.
