Did work well despite other reviews
Very rarely review but thought it was worth it here - I tried this out as despite quite a few bad reviews, it looked the best option for a short trip to Canada. It did actually work very well and consistently. I did follow the instructions to the letter, as it does seem like the timing of activating the sim, getting the number, and it actually working when you arrive really does matter. So thumbs up.

Not Great
Yes the SIM card works OK but customer service is poor, you don't know how much data you have used or when its running out. Plus they carried on taking money from my account after I returned to the UK, even though they said the account was terminated. I would never us Phonebox again.

Warning
Beware... !! Please double-check this product... When I tried to activate the SIM card in Canada, my credit card was blocked - fortunately - because since then there have been multiple attempts by person or persons unknown to pay for dating and porn site access... Beware... !!

Does what is says on the package
It was quick to arrive and pretty easy to setup. You just need to make sure you know which province you are going to and then choose which package you want. This is why it isn't 5 stars, the package sizes when I used it were 5GB, 20GB, 35GB and 45GB. Which is not very helpful if you want a middle ground of like 10GB or 15GB. But other than that it works well and you can set a date in which it starts from. You also get sent an email with a phone number that you use with it.

No international roaming
This sim card only works in Canada. Even the international texts only works from Canada. In addition prepaid plans cannot be refunded. The customer service is quick to chat and was able to answer all my questions.

Make sure you keep control on contract
Once you purchased and you get your phone number make sure you get into your account and if you don't want to automatically renew you cancel the auto renew payment option in your account. Don't just email them to make sure.

Traveled to Banff and several National Parks, sim card worked great. Event though on Amazon picture said $5 to purchase-it is a sim card without any data or service yet, you have to register on online following the instruction upon receipt of package. So signed up online, enter the dates while in Canada, select the DATA in GB - I chose 7GB/CAD$20 (only used about 2GB), i have iPhone 11 - unlocked phone. Reviewing the purchase - this was done thru "PHONEBOX" website. When landing in Calgary, inserted sim to iPhone, worked. as in national parks, cell pone signals are limited to none. GPS like Google map worked very well. Was very helpful with good internet speed, searching for sites and restaurants to visit.

***Warning Warning**** DO NOT BUY !!!! This company has GOT to be THE worst for customer service. I had a $25.oo plan that included 5 g of data. All was fine for a few months, when suddenly the same plan went up in prie by $20.oo. So after taxes, to extend the plan each month it was going to cost me over $50.oo Cdn. I called them up, and the customer service person said they could give me another plan, that would be the old price of $25.oo for 5 g data, but I would need a new sim card. They mailed me out a new sim card, but they said I needed to call back to have it activated. That is where they went downhill. After I received my sim card, i called them. Multiple times. I left them my number for the call-back option instead of waiting on hold as well. They would call hours later (like 5 or 6 hours later). One time they called me back, it was AFtER MIDNIGHT! i spoke to a total of about 6 customer service reps, and of them all, only one sounded like they knew what they were talking about. The rest were dumber than stumps. My current plan still running was still under the $25.oo. I went over a week of trying to get the new card activated which they said they couldn't do until the current plan ended. So when it ended, i spoke to them again (3 times) asking why was my new sim not activated, and why was my account online not reflecting the new plan. All of them said they would escalate this to their tech team. Nobody got back to me, so called them again. My last conversation with them, now that my old plan had officially run out, they told me that I had to purchase the plan again (now $50+) for the month so that my account was active again so they could change the plan on their end and that at the end of the new top u (the $50.oo one) then I could have the new plan. Forcing me to pay for they jacked-up priced plan so they could fix it was ludicris. My account WAS active most of the time I was trying to get them to activate the new sim card and change the plan. And the second your plan has expired, if you have not extended your plan, your account becomes inactive. Needless to say, the frustration of dealing with Phonebox was over the top, with the lack of help, their complete lack of knowledge and the fact that their customer service agents seemed to not be from North America and just learning the language while talking to you, they just talk.... they go through their whole spiel, and wont shut up long enough to hear what your problem is, (youl iterallyl have to ask them to stop for a moment so you can tell then what the problem or issue is, and that the last 5 minutes of them talking had nothing to do with why you were calling....then they say they will escalate it to their tech people and hang up on your. Grrr. VERY frustrating and annoying. Save yourself the time, money and frustration, not to mention their scam to force people to pay a higher price for a lower priced plan was just attempted theft. I've never been so angry at a company for blatent scam, attempted by such uneducated ill-informed employees. On the RARE occasion they actually anser their customer phone calls, you'll get some dough-head. Otherwise expect to be on hold for over an hour at least before you give up and hang up. their call-back option is also a fail, as they will call you and every time they get disconnected (from their end!!) Go to a reputable company! Stay away from PhoneBox !!!!!!!

Had a trip to Canada for one week so I purchased this SIM card expecting to buy the one week plan that was advertised on their website. On the day I arrived in Canada, I activated the SIM card, but the one week plans weren't available, only the monthly plans. Tried to contact support but all they asked was do I have a SIM card. No follow up at all. Ended up signing up for the prepaid 30 day plan which was more than I had planned to spend and needed. Terrible experience. Other things to be aware of is calls to the US are charged at a rate of $0.45/minute. You can avoid that by using a VOIP service like Google Voice. Cell service was provided by Rogers.

This carrier provides perfect plans for short travel to long stay in Canada, with a Canadian phone number and cheap data. Better buy their eSIM so that you don’t have to come to Amazon.
