Way more durable than I thought
My patio has almost no shade, and sitting at the patio table when the sun is out can get fairly brutal. The table is glass, and aside from the sun roasting you from overhead, the reflected light from the table top is enough to blind you. I didn't expect much from this umbrella when I bought it. I'd had a couple of others in the past and they tend to last 2 or 3 years before the UV destroys the fabric. If the UV doesn't get them, surprise gusts of wind will bend them into exciting new shapes. However, in the 4 years I've owned it, this has been the best patio umbrella I've had so far. Here are the high and low points: The good: -The umbrella opens using a crank mechanism, which pulls a cord that opens up all the arms. After oiling the crank, it operates very smoothly. I didn't expect the cord to last this long but it has and it shows no signs of fraying. You can set it to whatever opening you want and it stays in place until you decide to close the umbrella back up. Very well done. -The tilt mechanism allows me to angle the umbrella to block the sun as it rises in the morning. This means that if the weather is nice I get to have breakfast outside with the dogs without getting hit with a ton of direct sunlight. I didn't know I wanted this feature until I had it. Again, I recommend oiling the pivot and the button that locks it in place. Doing so made operation a lot smoother. I used regular household oil similar to 3 in 1 for this and it works fine. -LED lights inside the umbrella are nice to have. I'm not sure they're bright enough to read by but it's nice to have the option to switch them on at night. They recharge with a small solar panel that's built into the top of the umbrella and are maintenance-free. -The umbrella is surprisingly durable. On mine, one of the arms is bent after a gust of wind launched it into the air and then smashed it into the ground. Yep, I forgot to close it again. Unfortunately this little adventure destroyed the solar panel at the top of the umbrella so it no longer charges the batteries and the LEDs no longer work, but the umbrella itself still opens and closes fine and works well. The color has faded quite a bit from the sunlight but it has faded evenly and the fabric is still intact. I'm honestly surprised at the level of abuse it has endured. The bad: -The ONLY bad thing I can say about this umbrella is that the crank is so high up on the main shaft that it's awkward to reach under the closed umbrella to open it. Same thing with closing it-- you end up practically laying on the table and reaching awkwardly up to crank it open or shut. You can sort of get around this by lifting up the arms to get them out of the way and then turning the crank to put tension on the cable, but it always feels like I'm going to bend one of the arms that way. Overall this umbrella has proven to be way more durable and usable than I would have thought. The LEDs are nice to have but not a deal maker/breaker for me, but the quality has been way better than expected. When it comes time to replace it (I'm thinking it will at least last another summer, perhaps longer) I will probably buy another one just like it. This time I'll try to remember to close it during a storm.

LED Lights Needed Easy Fix - LOVE this Umbrella!
I am very pleased with this umbrella! Because: - It stands up well to a nice breeze; we haven't had it open in any severe winds yet. - It looks great (I got the navy color) - It feels high-quality (the canvas is thick and opaque) - The crank system works wonderfully - The tilt mechanism works and makes the umbrella useful in the evening hours as the sun is setting Some considerations for you as you decide whether or not to purchase: - The crank is underneath the canvas when the umbrella is fully closed. So you have to stick your hand underneath the canvas to start cranking without being able to see what you are doing. This isn't a problem, just something to be aware of. - The LED lights didn't work at first but it was an EASY FIX. You unscrew the solar panel at the top to reach the wires; I was able to see the plug was unplugged so I plugged it in and screwed the solar panel back on. Works perfectly now. - The umbrella recommends having a weight of at least 100lbs to weigh it down. I didn't realize this and only purchased a stand that weighed about 20l bs. This required another purchase to put the proper amount of weight on the stand.

Fine quality for the price.
Patio umbrellas with the tilt feature wear out when the tilt joint wears out. Even gentle breezes put stress on that hinge and the umbrella becomes unstable, the wear rate increases. and the hinge breaks, and its in the trash with the umbrella. If the hinge lasts, cheaper umbrella fabrics fade faily quickly and begin to look less vibrant after a couple of years. I shopped the web sites of local nurseries and found 10 ft. tile umbrellas price, on end-of-season sales, at about $350.00. Maybe they had a stronger hinge and non-fading fabric. I don't know. But this one was priced at $79.99. It's the same model I bought two years ago, so I expect it to last two or three years. The price differential is well-worth the decison to buy. If it breaks, I can choose a different color for a decorating change. The light blue color is gorgeous. It cranks easily. At night the lighter color of the fabric seems to reflect more light down on the patio table. I fail to see any true benefit of paying over 4x nore for something that might prove to be more durable. Besides, as careful as I tend to be, I've lost several of these umbrellas over the years when I failed to crank them down at dusk and a storm blew in during the night. One ended up at the top of a 125' oak. I found the other in the front yard three houses down the street.

Nice umbrella
Nice umbrella for our patio. Color has faded after a year but not too terribly. I do wish the solar lights were a bit brighter in the evening, but I also realize they’re solar & tiny. Crank works well, easy to use. The tilt is good as we face west & its imperative in the afternoon to block the sun. Overall decent quality!

Good value
LED lights not working? Pull the top solar panel off the pole by rotating counter clockwise 1/4 turn until you hear a click, connect the wires and replace the top. Pretty good quality, feels stable when open. The lights could be brighter, they are a little brighter than a nightlight. Not too heavy and you will need a base. The color was accurate to photo.
