Surpassed my expectations, great chainsaw!
I cut trees professionally many many years ago, cutting down stands of pine for telephone pole and pulp. Since then I've had little reason to own a chainsaw. But trees on my property fell during spring storms so I decided to buy a chainsaw. After looking at gas-powered saws many electric models showed up in my search. I have a couple other EGO tools and after reading reviews I decided to try this 18" model. WOW, I'm so glad I went with the EGO electric saw. It's surprisingly powerful, the battery lasts for a lot of cuts. Automatic chain tensioning works very well. Just charge the battery and add bar oil and its ready to cut. For the amount of times I will use this saw it is perfect for my needs. PROS: No gas and oil to mix (or smell, or transport) No pull cords/choke No carburetor/air filter maintenance Very little noise Decent power, cuts as well as many gas models Automatic chain tension adjustment (amazing) Relatively lightweight with good balance CONS: Lots of plastic (industrial grade) in its manufacture even though it is very well built. Probably last a good long time it you take good care of it.

Pretty Surpising.
I bought this because my wife cannot start our gas-powered saw, and finds the noise distracting and nerve wracking. She loves this new saw, has been using it a lot. It is somewhat lighter than our gas saw, and the simplicity of use and quiet, I think, make it a safer saw for her to use. It runs quite a while on a single charge. I find myself picking it up more and more. I have been a Stihl guy for a long time - used to do tree work - but this little gadget sure does work well. I was very surprised at how well - quickly - it cuts. Unless you propose to be bucking up redwoods, it is plenty of saw for nearly any purpose around the house. You could buck up a reasonable-size tree without any trouble. I have not had it long enough to comment on longevity, but it does seem well made.

Convenient and powerful
So far so good. Only used it for a little while so far so I cant speak on longevity but it works great, has tons of power, and is so convenient. I cut up a birch tree with it and it was so much quicker than my previous gas chainsaws. No constantly restarting as you change task saves so much time. Battery lasted through the whole job and had plenty of juice left. Really happy with it so far.

Almost Perfect, But probably the Best In the Market, but needs a slightly larger AH battery!
I have 2 Echo chainsaws I have used for years. They still do a great job, but the Ego cuts just about as fast, is more convenient for mid-size jobs, a little heavier, you don't have to mess with gas starting and carb adjustment, etc. Cut down a midsize pine tree and still had some battery power left. If you have a number of trees to cut down have two or more batteries charging or on charge to keep going. Seems to take a little over an hour to charge the Ego battery. Extra batteries are expensive, but it is a better value to buy a blower or other Ego product with a battery and charger than individual batteries/chargers. Just try to stay away from the 2.5 AH battery (wimpy). Get at least a 4.0 AH or better yet a 4.0 AH battery with the extra Ego tool(s) if you can. I would have rated it a 5 if the battery available was a 5.0 AH battery. There is one thing to remember about the Ego battery system. Most manufacturers use lower voltage batteries. Ego is 56V. Much of Dewalt tools are 20V. Now why is that important. Because the manufactures fail to tell you the real POWER a battery/tool combination has. They like to list 2AH or 4AH or 5AH. Those amp ratings are only part of the answer about power. To get the real power number multiply Amps x Voltage to get Watts or Power. With the Ego batteries at 56V they are over 2 1/2 times more powerful for the same Amp Hour rating. Manufactures should be listing both Amp Hours and Watts/Power.

Possibly the best battery chainsaw I've ever owned
Unboxing it was fun and easy. The battery came with 2 bars of charge on it. So I after mounting the charger on my shop wall I put the battery on the charger and got ready to get to work. An hour later the battery was ready to go and I loaded up the quad and headed out to the woods. I fell and delimbed 7 trees 14" thick and had cut up 2 of them before the battery died. This chainsaw is a serious work horse. 2 hours after getting it, I had it out logging with zero complaints. I just have to get another battery or 2 and I can get some real work done. It's a tad bit heavy for a battery saw. But it's much lighter than my gas one. I love the ability to maintenance the chain and bar with no tools to have to carry around. Also, this thing is tough. It seems much heavier built than the Oregon cs300 I had been using for years. Overall a good size, design, and functionality. I'd recommend this for any serious homesteader who relies on firewood to heat their home

So far so good!
I am becoming more and more of a fan of electric power equipment. So far, this 16" bar chainsaw has been great and has been very effective in cutting up timber. I bought this saw more so to cut up limbs on my neighbor's property as she is an older woman. We just recently had a nasty storm move through and it knocked huge limbs down on her property. Largest limb was about 16" in diameter. Made sure the battery was fully charged (4.0Ah) and the bar oil was topped off. It did not have any trouble cutting through the wood. The only issue I ran into was the chain skipped off the bar but didn't break. For the most part, it was pretty easy getting the chain back on and I made sure that it was tight. All in all, it's nice not having to deal with 2-cycle gas, it's quieter, and cleaner (in terms of immediate air pollution). As long as you preplan to have more than one battery and they are charged up, this has been a nice replacement for a gas chainsaw. I just hope the longevity of the unit will be up there.

Excellent Product so far - easy to use and saves a lot of time.
I can't begin to tell you how much easier this is to use than my 18" gas chainsaw and how much faster it makes the job. This has plenty of power and cuts through a big 14" tree quickly and easily! The real difference however, showed up when I was clearing a large tree with a lot of branches that had fallen across my driveway. I was cutting branches into smaller sizes to haul away, so there was a lot of putting down the saw, then picking it up to cut, then down again to haul the branch away. The time saved was amazing, because you picked up the saw, pulled the trigger, cut, set the saw down. With the gas one, you'd have to pick it up, start it, rev it, then cut, then turn it off and set it down. The gas saw runs (loudly) the whole time from starting to stopping and it's much heavier. The electric saw only runs for the short few seconds you make a cut. That may not sound like much, but I felt it significantly reduced the time it took me to do the job. Also - no gas/oil mixture to worry about - just bar oil. I like that I can use any of my Ego batteries in this saw. For quick jobs, I can use the light ones that came with my trimmer, but for heavier jobs I've got more and bigger batteries that came with other Ego tools. The only real question now is durability. We'll see how that goes.

EGO 16 inch chainsaw
My EGO 16 inch model CS1613 is wonderful. I have a Stihl 16 inch gasoline chainsaw and it works wonderfully too. The EGO electric I use for trees and limbs up to one foot diameter. The EGO is lighter and much easier to use and adjust without tools. It is powerful but NOT as powerful as my Stihl gasoline 16 inch chainsaw. The battery lasts much longer than I guessed. In addition the battery charges quickly as well. The one problem I noticed was working in and around vines. The vines strip the chain off the bar frequently, 4 times in 3 hours of use. The positive is that it is easy to remove the coverplate and bar and put the chain back on. I would definitely buy the EGO chainsaw again !
