Solid mount for the price
I was looking for a shock mount and was having mixed ideas on the ones with the suspension arms after reading reviews. Due to the weight of the Zoom H4n, many people stated having troubles with the arms not holding it well or lasting long. I decided to make my first purchase the right one hopefully and go with this more sturdy one instead.First thing that was hard for me to tell from the promotional photos was how the rubber worked or where it was. Hopefully my images will help if you're having the same issue. The rubber is a dense and tough feeling rubber with only the top mount screw slot and screw at the top, theres plastic on that top area, then rubber for the whole body and the bottom has the plastic just where it mounts to your tripod or stick. I also purchased the stick seen in the picture and I wanted a way to carry this item as well as mount to a tri-pod. I havent gotten to do a full range of tests yet, but will update if the audio is not maintained.

Seems to be a good solution to handling noise
This review is based off quick tests using a Zoom H1n mounted on a Fuji X-T3. There is still some detectable handling noise if I'm switching the camera between hands or making major adjustments to my grip, but general movement seems to be absorbed. I can still hear the lens movement when I zoom in and out, but that may just be the microphone picking up that sound and not the actual handling noise. It's not perfect, but for half the cost of a Rycote shock absorber I'll work with it.Edit: After using this product to record a handful of videos I can say that it works very well and deserves an update to 5 stars. For the price vs a Rycote mount, you really can’t go wrong with this. Recording using the H1n in public spaces like a market and a restaurant, handling noise is minimal and typically only when making dramatic adjustments like switching my grip or changing the focal length on the lens.

Sturdy
Other shock mounts I've used were very flimsy and I was worried about my recorder just straight up falling off, but not with this one! The rubber is solid but has enough give to it that it absorbs vibrations and keeps them from getting to the recorder/camera. The shock area is rubber, not hard plastic, which is super important.

Seems pretty good...
While I mostly use a camcorder to record video, I occasionally use my DSLR because the quality is quite a lot better than my camcorder. However, when I mount my Zoom H5 directly to my camera, the AF and IS noise is really, really loud. I am shooting a canon with USM lenses--I do have one STM lens, but it won't fit my full frame body, and I prefer the constant aperture of my USM lenses. If I mount my H5 directly to my camera with a metal hot shoe adapter, let's call that noise a 10 on a scale of 1 to 10. If I mount my H5 to the SMM8, I would say the AF/IS noise is reduced to a 6. I also have a home-made metal extension that gets the recorder about 6 inches above the camera--if I use that alone with the H5, I would call the noise an 8; and if I mount the SMM8 on top of it, I would say the noise is a 4. So, the AF/IS noise is still present, but definitely toned down. Depending on what you are filming, and how loud the sound is, you may not hear the noise at all--when I talked during the recording, the noise was not very noticeable, and I was panning around to keep the IS and AF busy while I was doing it, so if you held study on one subject, it would be even less noticeable.Edit: I decided to pull out my crop body with the 18-135 STM lens. Wow, guess I had forgotten how quiet this lens is--with it mounted directly to the body via standard hot shoe adapter, I would call it a 2 on the noise scale, and with the SMM8, it was a 0. For reference, the USM lens I tested with on the full frame body was a 24-105 L, version 1. Guess I might have to consider the EF 24-105 STM lens, despite it not being constant aperture.A little bit more about the product itself: I decided to go for this isolator over the less expensive ones, because of the complaints about the other ones breaking, and this one appeared more solid. I was worried it was going to be stiff rubber, but the rubber is actually extremely soft--if you shake it with the audio recorder on it, it will jiggle--that's a good thing for isolation. The one in the picture shows a metal square where it mounts into the hot shoe, but on the one I got, that whole lower assembly is plastic (edit: might be aluminum--it is not magnetic, but hard to tell if it is metal). There is a 1/4'-20 female socket on the bottom of the hot shoe mount, so you can mount it directly onto something with that thread, or, if you unscrew the lower assembly from the body, there is a 3/8" female socket, so you can directly mount it to a standard tripod fitting. The upper thumb wheel that secures the recorder is also plastic. The body part seems well made, while the plastic thumb wheels feel kind of cheap. It would be easy enough to replace the lower fitting--you would need a 3/8 to 1/4-20 insert and a standard hot shoe adapter. The upper wheel might be more difficult to replace because the screw is captive in the track. Having said that, the connectors seem strong enough, although I wouldn't put anything too heavy on it myself, particularly if you was using it on a boom pole.

Perfect for the Zoom H6
I originally bought the Movo SMM5-B, but returned it and bought this. The SMM5-B is way too weak to support the H6 adequately. The SMM8 is perfect for what I need it to do, which is mount my H6 to a SmallRig smart phone cage.

Best Shoe Mount I've Seen for H4/6N Zoom
I have this puppy mounted to a Nikon P1000 and Z7ii. Using a Sescom LN@MIC ZOOM H4N 3.5mm cable that I bought here at Amazon (check out the cable.. it's a must for your zoom to camera interface). You won't be disappointed with this mount. Rubber buffer is just right for Zoom . Not too much rubber flex. Low vibration even when you are on the move in rough terrain. This is a very well thought out product that works better than advertised. A bargain at 30 bucks.
