Early Hard Rock band
I was around the same age as these guys when they were popular in my hometown. They should have made it big. Nice addition to my collection. They were a Richmond,Va band that rocked as good as anyone back then.

Short Cross : Arising
I just received the album Short Cross Arising the other day. I'm really impressed by this boogie rock outfit, considering that these guys were only in their teens when they recorded this album. It was a low budget recording from a small label, but these guys really rocked! Some of the tracks that stand out are, Nothin' but a woman, Wastin' Time, Suicide Blues, Just don't care, On my own, Till we reach the sun, That's her train and Before it rains. I really recommend this album for all 70's boogie rock fans. It's truly a rare gem.

Old hard rock album - good but flawed
**Review originally appeared at https://midnighttosix.wordpress.comArising comes via Virginia hard rock band Short Cross, who released it back in 1972 after years of working their way through the local club scene. They only managed to sell 300 copies of the album thanks to bad business decisions and limited opportunites of being heard outside of the tiny Virginia rock market, but despite the meager sales the album is actually pretty good and it even managed to land them a spot opening a few shows for Black Sabbath. The music is pretty straightforward hard-rock – a blend of Blue Cheer, Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple, with a touch of the percussion-led jams of Santana. They had strong musical chops and plenty of attitude to boot, as evidenced in aggressive numbers like “Nothin’ But A Woman”, “Just Don’t Care” as well as the psychedelic “Till We Reach The Sun”. Perhaps the strangest song is the weepy McCartney-esque ballad “Ellen” where the band does a complete 180 degree turn, trading in blistering guitars for a string section. It’s a little out of step with the rest of the album, but the song is genuinely affecting, and would sound at home on classic rock radio. A few songs on Arising lean too heavily towards lame Southern boogie-rock, but the album still deserves to be heard and should be sought out by anyone with an ear for underground sounds from the early days of hard rock and heavy metal.

rock us seventies
