Yes, I bought it for running. It works well. I clipped it to my shirt/top so I could hear the beats.

Q: does it have Volume Control? How would you describe the Sound (click vs electic beep)?

It has a volume control wheel on the side. It goes from completely silent to surprisingly loud for such a small device. Here is a recording of the sound from the prior model the DM50 which sounds incredibly similar, if not the same. http://www.metronomes.net/dm50.wavThe sound is definitely more like an electric beep.

Q: Is it possible to mute the sound and just have a light flash to show the beat?

Yes, it is possible... There's a small volume knob on the side that you can adjust but the light keeps flashing no matter what volume it's at.
