Using this for my mini dachshunds. All at 10-13 lbs. (true minis-long and small yet heavy). I could potentially fit 2 of them in there for very short travel bc they do get along. However it will be tight til I can set it down and expand it. I was originally hesitant seeing the cat in the photo, but is is ample for the dachshunds.I had bought this for hotel stays when traveling to dog shows as extra crate in hotel only or short car travel, this would not be a crate for long term use at a show or in my home, but could be used in a home if dog is docile. it is sturdy, well made, has firm structure in place, and expands as described. top does not unzip. You will have to unzip the front to access the dog. I would recommend this purchase if you are looking for a well made soft sided travel crate, it is a tad heavy bc of the expansions and sturdy make up, but not to much for me. **if your dog is a chewer I would not recommend this.

We purchased this product about a month ago and have just completed an international trip with it. WE LOVE IT! I want to say that when we received the product, it was by far the best quality of any of the products we researched and ordered, and it was also a little larger than the others. We shared the concerns of others about it fitting. The first leg of the flight was across the US on a smaller jet and the product worked really well. It was just large enough that it went right under the seat. While waiting on the next leg of the flight in Newark, I was able to zip out the wings for comfort and he loved being able to see around. The next leg of the flight was to Europe and the flight ended up being full. I was in a window seat and the bag fit perfectly. The fabric, stitching and zippers are heavy duty and the base is waterproof. Our cat is 12+ lbs and we were concerned about his comfort on a 20+hr day. We arrived after car, plane, bus and train -and loved our Smiling Paws Kitty Bag all the way! Thank you especially to Victoria at Smiling Paws for her tremendous help.

I really like this carrier. It's expansive abilities are great and my 10# Boston Terrier loves it. The only 2 concerns are these, First, it does not stand up by itself when open and expanded. So, if you plan to use it at a hotel or while on vacation as a regular crate, you need a way to suspend it, which id do-able with the shoulder strap. Second, it does fit under the seat - mostly. I had it on a Jet Blue Even more space seat.I had to really wedge it under there. If you are older, or not that flexible, it may be too much. So, that being said, it is really well made and my dog loves it so we are going to keep it and use it until I can no longer get it under the seat, or until I meet that one gate agent who won't let me use it.

When the Amazon box arrived at my door, Bentley my yorkie, knew the package was for him. He was jumping up and down before I opened the box. After he helped me to open the box and discovered that the package was truly his, he couldn’t wait until I unfolded it. He was in it before I could open all sides. He stayed in it most of the day. I had to chuckle to myself because it was as if, he was sizing it up: he stretched his front legs, he stretched his back legs, he rolled over and he even tried his favorite position, laying on his back with his paws up (if you have a yorkie, you know that position). What more can I say, Bentley was completely comfortable. I leave it open with a soft cuddle blanket inside next to his bed and there are times he prefers the carrier instead of his bed. I found the carrier very convenient, strong and well made. I love the many compartments and I can choose which side I want to expand. Now when I put my shoes on and reach for my purse, Bentley runs to get into the carrier, and what about his walks? He now wants to be carried in the Smiling Paws carrier. Is he spoiled or what?? We are lovin it!

So far it's working wonderfully well for my cat. He's never traveled before and he spent 8 hours one trip and 9 the next day for our 1200 mi journey. It's sturdy but foldable and I think he loves bring able to see out on all sides. He's never been in a crate or carrier before and he has traveled well. He's a bigger cat and he has plenty of room even when its not expanded. MY 11 yo daughter is able to carry him with ease due to the cross body shoulder strap and she loves the pockets to be able to store his brush, toys, treats, etc. His collapsable food bowls clip right onto the loops and we are good to go! We are traveling in a highly packed car so I cannot attest to the airline compatibility, but we love it so far!

Love this carrier! I recently fostered a mother cat and her 6 kittens. When I needed to keep them contained for short periods, this carrier was perfect for holding a small litter box on one (extended) end, and food/water on the other. With the 2 sides extended, the 8-week old kittens had plenty of room. And, using it as a regular carrier worked well, too. Sturdy and well-made...you just have to figure out which zipper to use (there are a lot), and it easily opens/closes. The unique design is what got me to purchase this carrier...and I'm very glad I did.

The stitches holding the metal rod in place came already undone. I can see the metal rod poke through. Also, one of the side zippers is really hard to zip and unzip because of the angle and the bulge of the stitches (see pictures). I expected this to be of higher quality for the price I paid. Don't want to send it back because I'm in Canada. Exchanging it is going to take too long and I need it very soon. No dog or cat could have done that as I don't have one yet..

A very sturdy pet carrier! I really like the options you have with all of the expandability throughout the product; my dog can be really comfortable in many different options of opening up her space. It is a bit on the bulky side, but very sturdy in materials (my dog scratched at the mesh at first, and it didn't seem to give or tear much at all!), and I think we will be able to use this for many different kinds of travel, including airline travel. I wish there were different color options. Great value for the money!
