Out of 5 stars I give these 10
These Chaco sandals are by far the best active, athletic, general purpose footware I have ever owned. I bought these to use primarily for flat pedal urban cycling and for that purpose they are unbeatable. I have other, cycling specific flat pedal shoes, including shoes from top cycling shoe brands like Five 10 and Pearl Izumi. These Chaco sandals put those other shoe to shame. The soles of these sandals are equivalent in durability and ruggedness to hiking boots and they are designed with hiking in mind. They are both tough and super grippy on any surface including rocky, wet or technical terrain. The insole is super comfortable providing great arch support and shock absorption without being squishy. The strapping system is a little tricky to fit as it is made up of one continuous strap that routes under the footbed. It takes just a little practice to learn how to cinch down the strap on your foot but once you get the hang of it you understand why Chaco designed this strapping system. It holds you foot firmly in place without being too tight or causing discomfort. An active sandals needs to hold you foot firmly without allowing any fore/aft or sideways movement when you are hiking on uneven surfaces or moving side to side. The toe strap does a great job in holding the forefoot firmly in place but you don't even notice it is there when you are wearing the shoe. It just does its job perfectly without being annoying or obtrusive. Overall quality of materials and construction is second to none, these are the gold standard by which all other athletic footware should be judged. These come in whole sizes and I normally wear size 9.5. I went down a half size and found these fit perfectly. I would recommend the same if you plan on using these as active footware. You want athletic shoes to hold you foot firmly in place so sizing up is not the best option unless you plan on using these for just walking or casual use. It terms of value for money, quality and comfort I could not recommend these sandals more. I love mine so much I immediately ordered a second pair. I don't want to be without these any time soon.

My favorite all around "do everything" sandal to date
I wear my sandals 3 seasons a year in the New England area of the USA. I look for sandals to be light enough to be comfortable all day but also to have enough support and traction to wear when I am doing things like day hikes and canoeing and rafting and etc. I recently wore a pair of sandals exclusively for 10 days straight during a vacation to Italy.I was a longtime Teva lover and I had settled into the Terra Fi line as being a good combination of comfort yet rugged enough for active use. I wore Tevas exclusively for a number of years. I had been hearing good things about Chacos and when it was time for a new pair, I bought a pair of the Classic Z2’s. I wore them as my only sandal for about 2 years. While I found them superior to the Tevas in their performance when being active, I also found them a bit too heavy. They started spending more and more time in my closet as my feet got simply got fatigued for casual wear and I went back to the tried and true Tevas. After I blew out my most recent pair of sandals (on the aforementioned Italy trip), I bought the Chaco Zvolve 2 hoping for the Chaco performance in a lighter weight package. They were advertised as being 20% lighter and it makes all the difference in the world. They have a sole that is stiff and athletic enough to support hiking and other active pursuits, yet they are light and comfortable enough to wear all day just knocking around. Everyone I know makes fun of the toe loop. My kids call my Chaco tan lines my “dork tan.” I don’t care, the Z webbing and toe loop keeps the sandal well centered and keeps the foot from sliding around. When cinched down, they suck right to the bottom of my feet. When hiking in the woods, I find myself having to shake pebbles or twigs out from between my sandal and foot MUCH less frequently. If you wear sandals hiking in the woods, you know what I am talking about. They are super adjustable. I cinch them down when active and I keep them looser when wearing them casually. They are more expensive than their competitors, but I find them to be a much better sandal. Given how much I wear my sandals… It’s money well spent. I highly recommend them.

Great Sandals
If you want some comfortable sandals that are lightweight, built for some abuse, great traction on slippery slopes and through rivers or beach, easy to strap on and less fatigue from walks or hikes or just standing, these are great.

Almost a year in, these are solid
I wasn't sure what to think of the toe loop. It takes some time getting used to. (I have both these and toeloopless) these are definitely better for stability. They are better than shoes for stability. If you want hiking sandals these are probably what you want. I think my record is ~15 miles in a day. Feet felt fine. These are also easy to clean. If they start to smell I use an old toothbrush and water with two capfulls of cheap mouthwash. Good as new shortly after. These show no signs of breaking.

Great sandal at a cheap price.
So this Chaco sandal has been beaten and banged up by me and still running. I do a lot of river wading, fishing and kayaking. They're still in one piece. I've even played full court basketball in them. Tough and we'll made. I had a pair of Teva's and Eddie Bauers that fell apart within a year.

Good build quality - not for me
These look great and are built solidly, the issue for me was fit. The heel has a slight cup to it and rubbed uncomfortably on the outside of my heels. A blister waiting to happen.

I read through reviews and bought a few pair to try in different styles as there is not a retailer near me. I think they run a tad large. I've worn Teva, Reef, and cobian my whole life but wanted to try these. At first I thought they were hard, heavy, and uncomfortable. I started walking the dog in them and slowly adjusting the straps and now that I have them "dialed in" I love them. The straps are in the right places and the arch support is great. I took them wake-skating today and they are neutrally bouyant; nice if you surf or want to wear them in the water. I bought them with and without the toe loop and like the toe loop ones, especially today wake-skating. wish they were made in America and not China.
