What Your Fourth Grader Needs to Know (Revised and Updated): Fundamentals of a Good Fourth-Grade Education (The Core Knowledge Series) Review: Good for Sick Days and Covering the Bases - I bought this book because, first of all, as my daughter can tell you, they totally repossessed my cool card the day she was born. Stuck it in the shredder...that thing is gone! They may, and I repeat may, reissue me a new one when she's 30. Until then, I'm super uncool, and I'm the mom who buys this kind of book to have my kiddo read when I think she might not have the dreadful stomach ache she's claiming requires a day off from school. Yep, super uncool. But, given she was running around and asking for junk food 4 hours into the day, I rest my case. So I bought this one during the school year, and I used it for the above, and I'm also having her spend a few minutes a day reading during the summer in the areas she says she wasn't sure she got as much out of at school. I have purchased one of these every year since she was in kindergarten, and I find that they do a good job of explaining things and covering relevant topics. I have asked her how she feels about the writing in them and she says it's written in a way she enjoys and finds it easier to want to keep reading then some of the stuff she gets at school. The other day she actually protested when I asked for my kindle back because she'd put in her time for the day. She wanted to keep reading the geology section. So I think these are a useful and well written "make sure your bases are covered" book series. And I'm getting her one for fifth grade too. Because I'm still going to be uncool by the time fall rolls around too. Review: Priceless resource!!! - I have been a fan of the Core Knowledge series since the 1990s. This series is without a doubt the best resource for any parent/grandparent intent on providing or supplementing a top-notch, well-rounded education for their children/grandchildren. The thing I like most is the books are written at a grade-level reading. So, my children were able to do a lot of self-learning which gave them the opportunity to dig deeper into the subjects that most interested each of them. I cannot recommend these books enough!! I can't wait to get my grandchildren immersed with a love for learning!

Gift
I used these books when my children were young, and am giving the updated version to my daughter as a gift. They are great Grab-N-Go educational supplements for homeschoolers who will be spending time away from home. You don't have to pack a bunch of books, and you don't have to forego your educational efforts. It's very convenient.

Useful reference tool for homeschoolers
We homeschool and find this book useful to see what the world considers 'need to know' information for 4th graders. We have our curriculum from the district and our own ideas on education, but this is a good general reference and guide in case you are wondering what is going on out there. It has literature excerpts and poems and in spots is really detailed in information. We find it useful to make sure nothing is falling through the cracks and even as a tickler for ideas and concepts you feel could be included in your own lesson as you go along.

Covers all general ed you would learn in elementary school plus some
I wish it had premade quizzes in it for my students to practice with. Also wish it addressed basic psychology and understanding of your own mind, this is absolutely fundamental knowledge of self that will lead to success in life.

Great Book for 4th grade parents!
I am a teacher and I found this book to be one of the best books to help explain to parents what is required of 4th-grade students. I am going to refer to it during our open house and curriculum night events.
