Some parts of this item warrant a 5, other parts only a 1. First, the articulating arms are light, strong, and infinitely adjustable. The the locking thumb wheel mechanism locks the item whole all at once into a single rigid perfectly contoured arm. Another thumb wheel locks the rigid arm assembly(1) to the suction base(2). (1) is a masterfully engineered mechanical marvel that, once locked, will Not flex, even with an 11” iPad attached. (2) is a functional flop, depending entirely on a single attachment point of (1) to a plastic suction cup. The suction cup is typically pyramidal with the attachment point of everything that comes after it, to its apex. And boy oh boy does it flex at the apex of the suction cup. So much so, that I’m surprised I don’t see replacement plastic suction cups for sale. 2 insurmountable problems are inherent: Repeated flexing and pulling at this attachment point will certainly result in failure (oops, there goes my iPad onto the floor), and perhaps worst of all, the whole assembly vibrates and bounces. Is it any wonder they sell a dual suction cup apparatus? Or a much more robust single suction mount? This product iteration is a marvel of engineering and a failure at attachment, and it’s not sticking around (🤣) with me. I AM replacing it with the more robust single suction mount.
