Ring Side Report-Board Game Review of Sushi Go!
Originally posted at www.throatpunchgames.com, a new idea everyday! Product- Sushi Go! Sushi Go! is a simple family card game that follows many of the same drafting mechanics popular in 7 Wonders and Among the Stars. Players start with a hand of cards and choose a card. All players reveal their chosen cards simultaneously. Some cards are instant point cards like nigiri cards. Other cards are worth more as you gain more of the same card like dumplings. Yet others need a specific number of cards of one type to get any points like tempura where every two score points. And some are worth more depending who has the most of them at the end of the game. There are also wasabi that multiply other cards, and the chopsticks card. If players have a chopstick card, they can shout "Sushi Go!" and take a second card from the same hand of cards. After selecting your card for the round, you pass the cards to the left. When you only have two cards, you choose one card, and then throw the other into the center. After three total hands like this, players determine who has the most points and is the winner. Mechanics- I like a good drafting game. This one plays quick and teaches even quicker. My sister who can't read scored as many points as I did while my mom scored the least points. It's a blast to play and won't require encyclopedic knowledge of some obscure rules. 5/5 Theme- Here is where the game suffers. I don't get the feeling I get from Wasabi of being a chef. This game has cute sushi, but beyond the box and the art, there isn't really a story here. If story doesn't matter to you, then this game is great. 3/5 Instructions- The instructions are a single booklet that's less than ten pages. It doesn't take much to learn and play this game. 5/5 Execution- The cards are decent quality and the whole game comes is a metal tin. The art is great and all cutesy. And for less than 15 bucks? Well worth the price of admission. 5/5 Summary- This game has the family board game awards all wrapped up, and I can see why. It's cheap, easy to play, and doesn't require a ton of priming to get into. It's a great intro board game that doesn't break the bank and travels well too. 90%

An easy to learn, fun to play family game
We bought this based on recommendations from friends and family who play games with their children and the rules couldn’t be easier to learn. There is some strategy though! You have to think ahead and every round is different depending on what the other people playing are trying to do, making for good variety from round to round and requires adaptation. The game is very fun, the cards are adorable, and young and old (and everyone in between) can enjoy playing this game. The cards are high quality and the tin is nice for storing the cards, and doesn’t wear down like the boxes that card games usually come in. We’re glad to add this one to our collection and recommend it for yours too!

Fast, Fun, and Perfect for All Ages!
Sushi Go! has quickly become one of our favorite go-to games for family game night and casual get-togethers with friends. The cards are high quality and the tin box makes it easy to store and carry. Gameplay is super simple to learn but surprisingly strategic. The concept of "pick and pass" keeps everyone engaged, and rounds go by quickly, making it perfect for multiple plays in one sitting. It strikes a great balance between luck and skill, and there's enough to keep things interesting even after many rounds. We’ve played it with just two people and with eight — it’s always a blast! If you're looking for a light, fun, and quick game that works for all ages, Sushi Go! is a must-have!

Great game for new gamers
If you're considering purchasing this item now, and if money is no object, you should look to Sushi Go Party instead. Sushi Go Party! Card Game Sushi Go! Is a great game, but Sushi Go Party is basically everything Sushi Go! is and more. I have heard rumors that the quality of the card stock used in Sushi Go Party is a bit worse than what is used in Sushi Go!, but I've never handled the Party edition so I can't say for certain. I can say that the card stock used in Sushi Go! is great. Sushi Go! is a "pass and play" game, and the first of it's type that I had ever tried. Basically everyone starts with a handful of cards, decides one to play, and passes the rest of the cards (all the ones they decided not to play) on to the player next to them. This goes around and around until all the cards have been played. After everything has been played you total up everyones points for the round and see who won. This is one of those games I break out when the other players are not regular gamers. It's easy enough to learn, and the theme is cute and... well... tasty. The rounds are short enough that people won't get bored, and since everyone is basically taking their turn at the exact same time there's no waiting around. I find this game is a bit chaotic for my strategic slow game preferences. Since everyone is playing at the same time it's difficult to base your play according to what everyone else is doing. It's also pretty hard to remember everything that is flying by as you pass the cards from person to person. I saw the maki roll last time, but now it's, gone? Or it just hasn't come back yet? Glance at the table to see if someone played it... by then you're almost holding up the game! This quick speedy aspect is also what makes the game fun, so probably shouldn't complain much there. Only other personal gripe I have with the game is that while play is super fast paced and frantic, scoring each round takes a second. There are multipliers and each card type has a different way of being scored, so you can't just look at everyones play area and quickly determine who won the round. Good times though! Lots of laughs and great for new gaming groups. Plays well with 4 players so if your'e a pair of couples it's a great game to break out. The metal tin is quality as well!

Sushi go is a simple and intuitive game that is fun and encourages your child to think strategically. On the box the game suggests it is suitable for 8 years +, although my 5 year old daughter has no problem at all thrashing both my wife and I. Its not just fun for kids though - this is also a great simple party game that gets incredibly competitive! The game is really simple - you each get dealt a hand of cards, and each turn you must pick one that you place in front of you, and then pass your hand to the next player until all the cards are gone. At the end, you count up the points. This is done for 3 rounds in total, and the winner is the person with the most points at the end. You score points depending on the cards you put down in front of you. Some give you 1, 2 or 3 points, others give you points for collecting sets, and others give you points at the end of the game. Its incredibly rewarding to see your child debating with themselves about which cards to play - do I get the 2 points now, or risk it and try and get the 6 points later? Fun and educational (even if they don't know it). The game is sweet as it deviates from the typical fantasy type theme of knights, dragons and wizards (favoured by boys), and instead has nice pictures of various sushi dishes! all of which are beautifully illustrated and easily recognisable after a few games (important for those not familiar with Sush!). A wonderful result of this game is my five year old is now incredibly keen to try various sushi dishes. Cannot recommend enough - 5/5!

It’s a fun game. The pictures are cute, and I’ve already played it quite a few times. The container was a bit damaged, but the cards themselves were fine.

Sushi Go at first sight may appear like a very complicated game to play. There are many card types that work completely different from each other, but on playing it just once you already fully understand the whole game. Another pro is that the game is very flexible, you can play it with 2 to 5 people, but because the rules are so simple, it's easy to adapt it to your needs. The metal case is charming and good quality so it is easy to take with you everywhere, perfect for parties. The one thing though, although the cards have a very nice texture that is good to grip, it is very easy to leave scratches, even by just shuffling them. Not to mention, if you bring to a party, make sure everyone has their hands clean. Card sleeves are recommended, but because the cards are small, it may not be easy to find. However, the game is so cheap and so high quality, that even in the worse situation that gets so dirty to be unusable, you can just buy another one. I believe if you play it so much to that point, your money spent will have been more than worth it.
