Works great after firmware upgrade
The Zircon Leak Alert WiFi meets the need for a self-contained wireless water alert and is greatly improved with the latest firmware. First the Pros.... A big plus for the Zircon is that it is all self-contained. You do not need a base station or any kind of additional wiring. It runs on a single CR123 lithium battery that is easy to replace. The setup, although different, is reasonably easy if you understand basic WiFi. To configure, you press a button that commands the box to create its own SSID. Find it on your phone and log in. You then tell the Zircon about your regular WiFi, select that SSID and enter the password. You will not be able to interact with the sensor after that unless you go into private SSID mode again. If you understand all that then you should not have trouble with the rest of the setup. One thing to make clear... Wireless alerts are by email and it is no longer possible to alert by email AND messaging using SMS on many cellular systems. Perform an internet search on how to send an SMS message by email to your smartphone. It varies by carrier. It works great on some and you can get an alert immediately. That is no longer possible with AT&T. AT&T eliminated SMS by email. HUGE disappointment. Now to the cons... It used to eat up batteries much faster than a non-wifi model. The latest firmware update corrected that serious flaw and the iffy battery 'End-Of-Life' message. Occasionally it will message you about a spent battery but this is rare; Zircon, this was a big deal - thank you for fixing it. The Zircon also now sends out a regular health report every week, not six days. You read that right, it was every SIX DAYS. What were you thinking? Thank you for fixing that as well. Another con is shorter WiFi range than other devices. A small box placed on a concrete slab limits range. Tiny antenna. It is what it is. In summary, I hope that Zircon keeps selling these WiFi alerts. We have six. Some under sinks, by a water heater, by a sump pump. They have saved us from rotting wood and a flooded basement. With the firmware fix I am giving it 5 stars because the AT&T SMS-by-email change is not Zircon's fault.

Simple unit works as expected
This isn't a rocket science unit and that's good for those who want to get a leak detector in place quickly without complication. Tested and they work and I sleep better at night.

Loud alerts when water is detected
After having a dishwasher inlet valve leak and not knowing it, the cabinets absorbed a lot of water and mold started to grow. This resulted in a whole kitchen remodel which ended up being basically a whole house remodel. Since then, I've placed one of these any place that water could leak, i.e. under dishwasher, under sinks, beside water heater. I've also placed one in the A/C return plenum. When water is detected, these emit a loud noise which allows me to shut the water off or do something to catch the water. I have a sink in the garage and if a lot of ice from a cooler is put in it, the condensation under the sink will cause the alarm to go off. After the house remodel, we did one of the bathrooms. A valve under the sink was turned off and started leaking. The alarm started sounding and alerted me to the leak. I was able to shut the water off in time to keep from having other problems. I now keep spares and also change the batteries each fall when the time changes.

Useful and Reliable
These are useful and pretty reliable. Have one under every sink, toilet, dishwasher, fridge, clothes washer, water heater, HVAC, etc., in my house where water is used. Cheap insurance against water leaks and has given me early alerts of several leaks over the years. They have probably saved me quite a bit in repairs from slow leaks can often otherwise go undetected until damage is done. One star off for price.....should only be about 10 bucks each at most and price has gone up too sharply over the past few years.

Peace of mind to protect your house
I have been putting these on every water heater we come across. These saves many apartments building by getting an early warning, I buy these all the time. Worth the value and pays for itself year after year. When you change your smoke alarm batteries change these also. It lasts at least 10 years.

Awesome device
This device is great for detecting leaks. I have it next to my water heater and ac. it is extremely loud. It is easy to use, just have to place next to any plumbing area, if there is a leak and water touches the device, it starts to go off. My upstairs neighbor’s AC was leaking into my unit and luckily this device caught the leak. It was so loud, i thought it was the fire alarm but it was this device. Highly recommend to help catch any leaks.

How do you give a review on an item that just sits on the floor next to the grey water drain in the basement. You hope to never have to see this gadget actually working since that means the basement drain is backing up.....again!!!! It does give us a bit of peace of mind being down there though. If the drain should back up I'm not sure if we would hear the alarm since our home is quite large and that drain is down in the basement next to the furnace. Hopefully we will never see this item actually doing what it's supposed to do.

I bought the 5 pack...one for under the kitchen sink...two under bathroom sinks..and two next to the washing machine. I put a paper towel underneath the sensor to increase the area of sensitivity...Very easy to setup,,,Reasonable price.Good for apartments or homes...Its loud ...it is about the same as a smoke alarm..I tested it out and it is very sensitive. They look well built and like i say very easy to setup

I tested this alarm prior to putting it downstairs: was very loud and only took a drop of water. It would be nice if insurance companies accepted this as a water alarm (they do not) but at least I have peace of mind if I have a leak in the middle of the night.
