Q: Is there a way to replace a piece that breaks?

If it is broken when you receive it, Amazon will take it back. If you break a piece, you may be able to fix it. Or reach out to the company, they may help you. If this is your first wooden puzzle, you may find this one very tight and fairly difficult. The wax is a big help.

Q: Can the pieces be painted with a thin coat of paint or with ink and still work mechanically correct?

Yes they can be painted but my advise is don’t paint until you’re finished putting it together. Use thin paint or ink and plan to paint it twice.

Q: Why did the price jump up by $20?
