If you are planning on drilling a lot of holes and have no electricity, this is the item for you. Cut a branch off a tree, stick it through the hole at the top, and start drilling. I used my wife's broom handle, for mine, and she hasn't found out about it, yet! If the wood is dry, this thing cuts through like butter. Wet wood, not so much, but still acceptable for an old guy like me, with arthritis. In some applications, I could see a longer auger being more diverse, but this works for everything I need it to do. The Scotch Eye auger is exactly what I hoped for. It is massive, very robust. It took some time for delivery as I live in Germany but it was worth the waiting. Looking forward to use it now!

Good solid piece of kit. Well made, obviously function was more important than form. The welds aren't cleaned up but they look like they were done by someone who was at least halfway competent. The threads were well sharpened and even. Works very well. Only recommendation is to grease the thing before storing it as it is a high carbon non stainless and it will surface rust without some sort of moisture protection after a couple of uses. The grease also helps to get it started the next time you use it.
