When I first bought this, I made it like it was a "cup of soup", without diluting it with the water and egg. I loved it! Then, I read the directions....and decided I would rather continue eating it as I had started....undiluted with the water and egg. It is HOT, and just so good this way. The only thing is, by my eating it this way, it gets kind of pricey....about $3 per cup. Oh, well...maybe someday I will go by the recipe, but drinking it the way I do, I think I will probably keep it this way. Each to his own. Worth a try, though.

I think this is a great hot and sour soup BASE. I chop up lots of vegetables and put in protein sources (tofu/egg) and add cider vinegar for the sour part. This is not terribly spicy, but it is flavorful and that's all I want. People say my hot and sour soup is more like hot and sour stew and they are not wrong. It's a pretty chunky "soup" with all the vegetables I put in it and it's a very healthy quick complete meal.

My Chinese restaurant closed where I would order Hot and Sour soup for take out. This is the next best thing. I put 2 eggs in ,instead of 1 egg which makes it a little bit thicker.

This is basically a powder, so add water and whatever veggies you choose and cook. I like to use bamboo shoots, julienned carrots, celery and sometimes I add a bit of shredded chicken. The recipe on the back of the envelope also calls for a beaten egg, which I don't use. Both the packages of hot & sour and egg drop soup use a chicken broth base, which has a great flavor. I often use it to season chicken I cook in my slow cooker or insta pot.

I add a packet of Ramen noodles (without the Ramen seasoning packet), and it makes the most delicious soup!

The soup mix on its own was lacking something. Found it is great when other ingredients are added; ( not necessarily all ) tofu, egg, bean sprouts, bamboo shoots, water chestnuts, celery, or onion.
