Q: is this suitable for mounting outdoors, like on the garage door frame?

Yes, I mounted mine on the outside, on the garage door frame, and have had no problems with it. I'm not sure what the manufacturer recommendations are on outside mounting but the unit would not be useful if not outside and easily accessible. I thought about keeping it out of any direct sun but I'm not sure how important that factor is. It mounts flush and when in the closed position is very snug.

No you can't use this to break into house's. You need access to the door opener inside the garage.

I have to replace batteries every 2 months + or - Pretty frustrating as I don't use it that often, but when I do, I expect it to work. I use Duracell batteries. I live in northern FL. I have never had an issue with losing the code and the backlight works fine when there is battery power. Sometimes, I have put in the code a couple times. Poor design and I wished there was an alterative.
