Designer's "signature". As in this case, it is usually more akin to a brand or maker's mark, or even the personal seal of an Ottoman caliph, rather than a full written name (unless you're Brian Tighe, who uses his actual full signature on his knives). In the case of the Manix,I believe the signature or mark is that of Eric Glesser (sp?), son of Spyderco founder Sal.

Yes, and it makes it so much easier than by hand! I started at the 140 grit "beast" stone and worked my way up to 1500 grit at 20 degrees per side, finishing with the 4 micron emulsion on a strop. It works pretty well if you do it right and take your time. Make sure you get a burr all the way down the edge that you can see in the light when you start at the lowest grit stone. That way you know you're actually hitting the apex of the edge. It gets scary sharp!
