Henna + Indigo combination has been used for ages as a natural solution to cover grey hair. However, I only got to know about this very recently. And I couldn't believe that there is actually a natural solution to dye grey hair permanently and so few people even know about it. Most still continue to rely on chemical coloring which is both dangerous to the hair and may even be carcinogenic. Before buying either henna or indigo, please make sure you are buying the 100% pure powdered form of the plant and not some mixed hair color which may have other chemicals added to it which can cause reactions or severe side effects. Coming to the product itself, it is a simple powdered form of indigo leaves and will work if you use it correctly. To get good results, I use the standard two step process. Basically, first I apply henna on hair, leave it for 2 hours and then wash it off. The dye develops into a deeper orange color over time as it continues to oxidize in air and sunlight. Hence I usually wait atleast 24 hour before doing the indigo treatment. Also, since henna is natural conditioner, I also notice that my hair becomes thicker and shinier after every application. Next day, I apply the indigo - I take a bowl, put the required amount of powder, add warm water and make it into a paste with yogurt like consistency. Then I apply it all over the hair making sure that my entire hair is fully covered in the paste. I let the paste sit for 2 hours on my hair. And then I wash it off with water. Immediately after washing, I can see that my hair has turned darker in color. However, a deeper black color only develops over the next 1-2 days as the indigo dye continues to oxidize. The dark color is permanent. I usually do the treatment once in a month. I also apply oil to my hair after the indigo treatment as it does dry out my hair a little bit. Also, please remember that a lot of salon actively discourage people from using natural solution like henna and indigo cause their business relies on selling overpriced and chemically dangerous hair colors. The fact however is that the 100% pure form of either henna and indigo are perfectly natural and safe for external applications.
