Q: Is this an ion exchange filter designed to remove calcium and magnesium (hardness reduction) like the original AquaClean filter?

It is a filter required by the manufacturer for warranty coverage. My machine setup requires the results of a water hardness test and that is used to determine the life of the filter, among other things I can only imagine. I’ve sent my machine back twice for unrelated issues and, because the computer system tracks the use, inputs and functions, they can determine filter and machine settings and use to diagnose issues, So I’m glad I used the filter to keep the machine in warranty. This filter worked as well as the AquaClean for that purposes and since I don’t have scale issues with the water where I live, (20 years and no scale on any plumbing fixtures) the lower cost made it a good buy for me.
