I’ve been using the Panasonic LUMIX S 85mm F1.8 lens (as well as the 50mm F1.8) for a few days now, and I’m genuinely impressed with its performance. Right out of the box, the build quality feels solid and professional—lightweight yet sturdy, making it perfect for both studio work and shooting on the go. The image quality is where this lens truly shines. It delivers tack-sharp results even wide open at f/1.8, with beautiful bokeh and pleasing color rendition. Whether I'm shooting portraits, street scenes, or low-light environments, this lens consistently delivers crisp, detailed images with smooth background separation. Autofocus is quick and quiet, especially when paired with my LUMIX S5. It’s great for both stills and video—Panasonic clearly designed this lens with hybrid shooters in mind. Focus breathing is minimal, which is a huge plus for video work. I also appreciate the consistency in size and design with the other f/1.8 primes in the LUMIX S lineup. Swapping between lenses in this series is seamless, especially with matched filters and balanced weight for gimbals. For the price, this lens punches well above its weight. Whether you're a professional or an enthusiast looking to elevate your kit, the LUMIX S 50mm F1.8 is a smart and satisfying choice. These are GREAT for when the heavier LUMIX PRO lenses are too heavy.

The Panasonic Lumix 85mm f/1.8 lens is essential for any full frame lumix shooter interested in portraiture. The lens is relatively compact and lightweight, pairing very favorably with the 50mm f/1.8 lens. It offers beautiful smooth bokeh and fast, accurate autofocus. The focus motor is also very quiet which makes this a great video lens as well. While this lens does not have any image stabilization, it does work very will with IBIS enabled bodies such as my S5IIx and allows me to shoot confidently down to about 1/15 of a second handheld while maintaining sharp focus. Overall I am extremely happy with this lens, especially for the sale price.

This lens was bought along with my first camera Lumix S5II and it has helped me take a lot of beautiful pictures. I dont know how to take amazing photos so I didnt want to make a review until I got a good grasp on how to use it. Im new to photography so I cant say what it does that other lens dont do but I can say its very compact and feels like something worth more than the price I paid for it. It's very sharp for what I want and for the most part wouldnt every complain about sharpness. I was able to use it for very low light scenarios and still take nice pictures as long as I stood still. It gives me a good distance between my subject and me allowing me not to completely bother the animals. This is the first lens I used and its my favourite so no real critiques or anything. All I can say for certainty is it produces some of the most beautiful pictures I had the pleasure of taking and the build quality feels amazing for what I paid for it.

Pretty darn sharp even at f/1.8. Perfect for portraits. Bokeh tends to be very radial in nature and looks good overall. Contrast is quite good too.

I got this lens with my Panasonic S5. Overall picture quality is excellent. The Sigma 85mm f1.4 is probably a bit better, but the form factor and price make this a better general purpose lens. The video autofocus on the Sigma is legitimately horrendous. Autofocus for both pictures and video on this Lumix 85mm is excellent. If you want a good, portable 85mm lens for the L-mount system, this really can't be beat.

I love this lens. I purchased it with my LUMIX S5iix. I use it mainly for portrait videos, outdoor talk heads. It gives beautiful bokeh in the back ground. The auto focus is good 90% of the time, but there is a little bit of focus breathing every now and then under certain situations. Generally very happy with the purchase.

Amazing results and picture clarity is so good. Love it.

I combined the maximum ISO the Lumix S5 allows (51.500) and the max aperture from the lens and the results were amazing. If you want very sharp portraits and you are a night photographer I definitely recommend it to you.
