Don't waste your money
This drive was intended to back my data up in a foolproof manner. Because of two disc mirroring, I figured I was immune from drive failure. Well, imagine my surprise when after just 7 months of ues I tried to access the drives through my Orico controller and discovered that both drives required formatting. After contact with the manufacturer they implied A. Improper use caused the problem, and B. The drive was safe to use again. After I requested a refund they ceased contact with me.Update: Orico did provide a refund and shipping to retrieve the failed unit. However, Amazon retained a "restocking fee" and completely acted like the left hand didn't know what the right hand was doing, serious mixed communications from Amazon. Eventually, after a lot of back and forth (read: WASTED TIME) Amazon agreed to provide a gift certificate for approximately the amount of the restocking fee. But but then I was so fed up with the whole thing that I demanded more...which I didn't get. Not the first time I've seen how obtuse Amazon can be. Anyway, good on Orico for accepting their defective drive back.

Great looking but total fail on functionality
I bought two and had to return them both. The software to configure the device does not recognize the device! Tried two software versions on two different machines with both devices. Same result on both. No dice.I was able to configure it manually to RAID 1 with the dip switches but —- I checked to see if it was writing to both drives… and it wasn’t. No way to know unless you remove and scan the drives. It is too bad because it is nicely constructed and a nice design. That said, like most tech products from China, the manual is hard to follow and support is lacking. Unfortunately, both are being returned.

Do not under any circumstances buy this device!!!!
Do not under any circumstances buy this device if you value the data that you are going to save on it. Check out more reviews for this device. This device does not work for more than half a year in 24/7 mode, it just breaks down. I have lost a lot of valuable data because of this. The device formats disks in such a way that you cannot easy recover data from them after the failure of this device.

DO NOT BUY!!!
I Purchased this on ebay brand new from Orico. I cant leave a review there for some reason, so I'm warning others here. I wouldn't purchase any Orico product, they have lost all my trust. I have 2 12tb seagate NAS drives. I inserted them into this enclosure and set the pins to raid mode and everything was fine. About a week later, one morning I got the Error that both drives "Structure of Disk Data is CORRUPTED". This can be fixed with the CHKDSK command. But it returns your files in hidden unmarked folders. This took 10 hours to run and re-organize all the data. Then another 15 hours to manually copy it to the backup drive. I purchased some cheap drive readers and carried on manually backing up the drives myself not using this enclosure. I contacted Orico and they wanted to start doing the Run-Around of asking if I was doing something wrong.Fast forward a few months later. I was cleaning up my desk and figured that the Orico enclosure may of only corrupted because of the Raid Mode. So I reset it to regular mode, where it reads the disks separately. I do love the build quality of it. It's sturdy and solid metal, so I gave it another chance. But to no surprise, 2 days later both drives corrupted again. Giving me another 25 hours of work to get my Data back.TLDR: As a Data archival product the only thing I expect this to do, is just work in the background. But after corrupting my 12tb disks twice, Orico has absolutely no integrity in my eyes for Data Archiving.Since then, I've Purchased a Terramaster Nas [ 4 Bay ] and couldnt be happier with it. Super easy to set up and it just works. Also no ridiculous turn off of the drives every 10 minutes of inactivity. That drove me nuts. My advice would be just to spend the more money now on anything except Orico to avoid the headache later.

Corrupted my data in less than a week
Set up a raid 1 array using 2x 14tb WD Ultrastar drives. This was done with the hardware switches and exclusively used on a Linux computer.Copied over many terabytes of data, then left the device unplugged for less than a week.Came back to a corrupted file system and unrecoverable data.Build quality is great, but this drive is utter junk.

about a year and a half
I got two units, both 2 bay. worked great for about a year and a half then corrupt data about every 7~10 days on both units. Didn't matter if it was set up for RAID or single drives. Even put in new harddrives.. new USB card in my computer and same thing. Don't waist your money on this company.
