ALLOSUN Digital Multimeter Pocket Size DC AC Voltage Current Tester NCV Ohm Capacitance Frequency Diode and Continuity Test Auto Range (EM3085A (Upgraded))

This is a very budget and pocket friendly multimeter. It’s small, well built and I think is accurate and precise enough. If this is your first multimeter, it’s a great starting point; if you want a portable one, I think it’s great for that; if you want to show off, stop reading and get a Fluke. It’s not a Fluke and it costs a small fraction of it, so any comparison to Fluke or a Bryman or any other big brand is unfair. I’ll try my best to give you an overview of what this is and what is not. Construction: It feels pretty solid, it will not survive a fall from more than your desk though, so don’t leave it unattended on the roof of your house. The leads are permanently attached to it, and their cable is not super flexible, but it’s not hard stiff either. I can put the leads back to their intended position in the case without any problem every time I use it. The clamp case is convenient to store everything in a smaller package than a modern phone, but it’s not really convenient for having it in a stand up position (also, the whole thing is pretty light and any tension/pressure on the leads will move it) but you can let it laying flat on the table and it will be OK. The dial feels as if it will survive some years of moderate usage, but the front of the unit and the function keys are made of a soft plastic that will be damaged if not handled with care. I did a small dent on it after closing it without putting the leads in the correct position. Features: Let me start with what other users complain about. Continuity: The buzzer is not super loud but it’s not faint either, I actually like the volume it has. It’s fast and not scratchy at all.. Protection: I agree with other reviewers, this one seems to have almost no protection at all, and because the leads are permanently attached, you can fry it if you put it in the current position by mistake while measuring a power source. I always adjust the dial and double check it’s not in current mode before testing a circuit. The good thing is that if you make a mistake, you can get another one because these are not expensive. Having no protection would be a really bad thing if this was a 3 figures DMM, but it’s not. I use it for electronics circuits where the protection is not really needed. Battery: I also agree with some complaints, it’s kind of a hassle to change the battery, you need to disassemble the whole thing, but it is not the end of the world and if you use it as a backup multimeter or a travel one, you probably will not be changing battery anytime soon. On the rest of the features, I did a comparison against the UT61E+ which costs a bit more and which I use as my main multimeter but which is bulkier and heavier. To be honest, the readings were so close that I feel very comfortable taking the Allosun as my only multimeter when I’m going as a volunteer to repair events. Please pay more attention to the discrepancies than to the overall accuracy and take into account that the Allosun is a 1000 count device vs 22000 in the UT61E+. So far I have to say this little meter meets expectations. I've tested it all the way up to 480 volts and have yet to have an issue. That being said it isn't something that I expect to handle constant heavy loads but I carry it in my pocket here at work to just trouble shoot quickly before having to break out my larger meter. The leads are short and pretty sturdy for what they are designed for. They fit nicely in the case and the case is decent for the price. There is a small fuse next to the battery for protection when testing AMPs. You remove the two screws on the back and then take one of the leads to push the board up to install the battery. Work the lid a couple of times to loosen the hinges. Overall, all the features on this meter have worked and given close readings in comparison to my larger and feature laden name brand one. We will see how long it lasts but for $14 I can't complain. Oh, it is auto ranging so give it a second when testing to set the range.

Great product for the price! This is super small, auto sense AC/DC sources, does continuity, has built in non contact voltage sensor. The size the the reason I bought this, and its self contained compact style form is perfect. The only thing I didn't care for is in the continuity mode, in order to have an audible alert, you have to select it, that should be default. While this won't be do-all meter, it is functional enough for 80% of the work I do.

For the price, it's good enough to keep in your pocket to check the simple things at work. It can do low current instruments as well as low voltage AC

I purchased this to replace a mini multimeter I have had for many years. The form factor is for the meter itself appears to be the same, but the overall size of the ALLOSUN unit is smaller when closed. I also prefer the hard case as I think it will protect the meter better. You can also see their are more functions with the ALLOSUN meter and the cable management and storage of the probes is better. The other thing I liked about it is that it uses AAA batteries versus the two 357 button batteries. I tend to have spare batteries lying around the house, so the AAA battery is going to be easier to replace when needed. I don't know how this will work long term, and I have not tested accuracy versus multimeters that are more accurate.

I've only used this on my John Deere Gator. I do a lot of starting and stopping with little run time. I ordered this because my 8 year old battery was becoming unreliable and I didn't want to take the time to replace it. I'm often deep in the woods and now I always have this jump starter with me, it's compact and very easy to use and has saved me a long walk several times. I've only charged it once (when I first got it), and it's still showing 100%. I have a new battery now, but I still keep this in the Gator just in case. Great insurance at a very reasonable price!

Small package, this is great for fitting in tool pouch for minimal usage in field. Leads are somewhat flexible but not that long. Case is sufficient, latch somewhat difficult to open. The one rear flaw is the fact that battery replacement requires removing the back and a few screws and secondly the battery contacts are temperamental and sometimes the meter doesn't power on. Accuracy isn't measured as its not something that is expected.

Works well for those with good vision....some small stuff to read but a very capable little unit...pocket size is so handy....the non contact emf reader will help to detect wires in walls before you drill....good tool

Back cover hard to remove to access battery (not included on EM3085A). Once 2 screws removed, hard to pry open with small flat screwdriver. A pain to replace test leads in case after use. Rotary dial hard to rotate; needs a more prominent OFF tab. Good size meter for pocket placement.
