I accidentally ordered a 3 LB bag of Raw Black Sesame Seeds thinking I was getting poppy seeds for my holiday bread and cookie baking. A mix-up that nearly derailed my baking season! (Side note: not sure if this was an Amazon search glitch or an algorithm quirk, but definitely double-check when ordering seeds in bulk.) That said, I turned the situation into a fun opportunity and gifted portions to a few of my “naughty” friends as a clever pun on coal for Christmas. Everyone got a good laugh, so it wasn’t a total loss! As for cooking, these sesame seeds are excellent. I often cook Asian or Italian dishes, and they add a deep, nutty flavor to vegetables, stir-fries, and other recipes. They also work well as a garnish for a little extra color and crunch. With the remaining portion of this 3 LB bag, I’ll definitely put them to good use, so they won’t go to waste. Tip: Always check the label carefully when ordering bulk seeds, especially if you were expecting poppy seeds. Otherwise, these are high-quality, flavorful sesame seeds that work beautifully in a variety of dishes; and if you receive them by mistake they can double as a fun, cheeky gift. Enjoy!

Firstly, there is a smell and taste of mold, secondly, it is like black paint! Is this seed good for health? The photo shows the natural color - not solid black, but I received dark black seeds that also taste terrible! Maybe that’s why the goods are not subject to return! Don't buy! I was disappointed!

Love the size of this bag and the sesame seeds taste so good

A common complaint is that black sesame seeds are "fake" (i.e. dyed to look black). I tested these by sprouting them over the course of a week (partly to see if there was any dye and partly to see if they were truly "raw", since the description didn't list that info) and after rinsing twice a day for 5-6 days, they were mostly black with minor natural-looking color variations (some very dark purples, reds, blues, etc). I'd say 1 out of every 50 were "white" which could actually be that the shell was knocked off during processing (all black sesame has a white part underneath the black shell). Some black color did show up in the water each time but I think it was from the actual seed shell, because by the time they sprouted, the seeds were all still quite dark. The germination rate was about 80-90%- VERY high for something shipped from Amazon. Overall I'm very happy as black sesame seeds for sprouting elsewhere online are at least double the price, if not more.

I was a regular customer, I read old reviews and thought, well, maybe somewhere the batch of grain is bad, but I couldn't believe that everything was so bad!!!
