Update three: The coconut cake/bread, made on the cake cycle of my DeLonghi bread machine. Very interesting recipe. I had to substitue lemon juice for the lemon zest, and sweetened coconut for the nonsweet coconut...(I googled around for conversions and found the info I needed.) It was my first time using self-rising flour. I do not know if I did something wrong. I made the medium size loaf. It came out about 3" high tops....nicely brown on all the edges, came out of the pan easily. And probably one of the most scrumptious things we have ever tasted.Update two: I tried the light rye bread. I made another "small" loaf. It was a bit dense and compact, but the bread itself is delicious, and oh, the way it made the meatloaf sandwiches taste!Update One: I made my first bread from this book this afternoon. I chose the buckwheat/walnut bread, and is it ever delicious. I made the "small", to see what a small loaf does in my DeLonghi bread machine. So using the measurements from the book, I used the small version, and the 1 lb. setting on my bread machine. As always, I took the paddle out before baking, and when I was doing that, realized my dough was extremely sticky. I didn't pay enough attention early in the kneading, it could have used a bit more flour. However, after baking and cooling, the only thing wrong with the loaf is the collapsed top. The bread is divine. The crust is crispy....like a soft, delicious cracker with a taste I have never tasted before. Oh...and I added an ounce of wheat germ to the flour. In case you have never measured dry ingredients (like flour) using a scale rather than a measuring cup....I highly recommend using a scale!I love my bread machine (by DeLonghi) so very much. I do have a couple of bread machine books but I treated myself to this one because of the reviews. I only received it yesterday, but have read through the entire informational areas, and so far have a list of recipes to try from the first couple of sections. The reason I love the book is that it is so beautifully presented. It lists various types of measurements (handy for my DeLonghi because that recipe book is all about weighing your flour and other ingredients, so it is easier to fit these new recipes to my machine.) It has lovely pictures, shows how to form various doughs if you are going to just make dough in the machine and then form and bake it in the oven. It has wide and varied recipes. I have had bread machines for decades, so I don't need to make these recipes to see know that they will work. This is a very large and heavy book. The one thing I wish it had was a spiral binding.

When I lived in England I had this book, but when I moved to America, I have left my book behind. I made a few loaves in my panasonic bread machine but they didn't seem right with other cookbooks. I finally bought this one again and what I love about it is that is has the measurements in imperial and metrics...for accurate measurement and my bread came out PERFECT!!!!!!!BEST COOK BOOK

My wife LOVES this book -- it's already inspired her to create a few new loaves and perfect her French bread recipe. While (almost) all bread machines come with a pamphlet or two that'll teach you how to make a loaf, this book breaks it down step-by-step and tells you why certain breads require certain cycles, when to add the mix-ins, and how to best use your machine for dough. Every time she reads this book, she gets all excited about something new that she learned. It's so cute, but more importantly, it means we have more bread!Many of the measurements are metric, but the author does a very good job of breaking it down in US terms and equivalent units if you skipped that chapter in third grade. I'm no bread book connoisseur, but this one seems like a great companion for your machine.

Excellent book! Every recipe I've tried has been great. I've gone on to buy a better bread machine that can handle larger loaves as a result of the buttermilk loaf recipe alone...I made it with Greek yogurt and lemon juice (per recipe suggestion) and it turned out to be the perfect sour dough hack!Very clear directions and simple recipes. Lovely photos and organization. Gluten free and starter instructions. I will definitely use this book over and over for years.

Great photos and precise instructions. However, I have found more recipes on the web that I use more frequently.

Bought this as a gift for a friend who just bought a bread making machine. It's a great instructional book and has great recipes but if you are already a bread machine user you probably don't need this book. I wouldn't buy it for myself. l want more recipes and less instruction.

I never even bothered trying any of the recipes in this book and ended up throwing it away when I recently moved. The thing that drove me batty was that the writer kept repeating her favorite catch phrase over and over and it just showed a lack of creative writing skills on her part. I don't remember it verbatim but it was something along the lines of, remember it's just a bread machine and it can't think. The first time I read it I thought yep, kind of obvious but a good thing to remember. Then it was repeated so many times in the early pages of the book that it was a huge distraction every time I read it and got irritated that she couldn't think of anything else to write so I put the book down, never opened it again and eventually ended up throwing it away even though it was basically brand new and had never been used to make a loaf of bread. Yep, maybe I missed out on some good recipes, but I just couldn't shake the feeling that the writing style really irritated me enough that I never wanted to re-open this book and read past the first several pages that I'd read before giving up on it and buying another bread machine cookbook which I use fairly frequently. Who knows maybe for others her writing style is great, but for me it was not.

Great book, easy to navigate and easy to follow the recipes. All measurements are given in grams/ounces/cups which is extremely convenient. The recipes for each loaf are given in three size options - small, medium, large. Well worth the money!

We've had a Panasonic breadmaker since 2011 and it's used all the time - I've been fairly imaginative with my use of flours, glazes and toppings, but never really ventured beyond this. Great book - I feel inspired, and what a revalation on the use of stabilisers such as lemon juice, and help on problems, glazes and toppings, and I've ventured to cakes and some far more interesting breads. My first attempt at Yorkshire tea cakes wasn't perfect but they were pretty good - I think I can adapt the recipe to make some bagels.I've also created a table of the ratio of water to flour for different types of flour (anorak or what) that helps take some of the hit and miss out of blending different flours to make nice loaves that aren't in the book - like three flours and six seeds - yummy.It's a really good book, and a must if you use your bread machine regularly, or want to get more out of it and have some fun.

I brought this book when I purchased a Panasonic bread-maker.I have had a great time making the different recipes and all have turned out fantastically well.I recommend you read the first section which gives great advice on adapting for your bread-maker (for mine you add the ingredients in opposite to the book).The basic white, farmhouse loaf and white loaf made with eggs have all been everyday staples.My favourites so far are the honey and oat bread, fantastic for toast and the chilli bread.This book has loads of high star ratings for a reason. Highly recommend.

There are some good recipes in the book, but I was disappointed at the amount that needed to be baked in the oven. Not what I was expecting from a book with this title. There are some good tips, and explanations of different ingredients. Nice photographs that you can almost smell. Overall, I'm pleased with the book.

The receiver of the book was very happy with its content but as it fell open at various sections it was clear it was not brand new so I have knocked off one star.

This book is called "The Ultimate Bread Machine Cookbook" & it lives up to its title, having been recently updated. It's packed with many tested recipes from completed loaves to various doughs, cakes, donuts, hot cross buns etc. It includes extensive knowledge on the effects of adding various ingredients & on useful equipment to have. A good value hardback to have in the kitchen.
