You have to pick the right monitor
This is a pretty good piece of kit at a reasonable price. It basically lets you see your video as it is rather than how it looks on your monitor. I'm using it on a M1 Mac Mini and there are a couple of gotchas, first the output in HDMI at least is 1080p max. It can go higher if you use an SDI monitor. Secondly on Resolve at least the frame rate will match your timeline the first monitor I tried couldn't handle 24fps and I got a signal out of range message. I have an old HP monitor (out of production now) that does support 24 fps so I was ok there. Third Davinci didn't recognise the device when plugged into a thunderbolt 4 hub. This meant that I was forced to plug it into a thunderbolt port on my M1 Mini and move my T7 drive onto my OWC Dock so now both thunderbolt ports are occupied. I think it will slow the T7 drive down a little. On the plus side I still get 2 monitors for Mac OS The Blackmagic UltraStudio Monitor 3G is only used in supported software and doesn't form part of your Desktop. If you really need more monitors then a Dell D3100 dock can support 3 more (2x HDMI and 1 DisplayPort). If you don't have a monitor that supports 1080p24 you may find a TV will support it but then it's not likely to be color accurate. My HP monitor is less than perfect but it's what I can afford and the output is reasonable. For my needs this setup is enough and the M1 Mini works pretty well as an editing machine.

Boom!
