probably the best book in the entire collection,it sets everything up perfectly and introduces us to all the major characters of the blake and Mortimer series awesome

This is a prequel to "The Secret of the Swordfish" and should be read in conjuction with that series as the story doesn't really resolve itself after 60+ pages. Mortimer makes his appearance only halfway thru the book, which is a pity as he's the more interesting of the two main characters. Colonel Olrik is also on board for the proceedings but he doesn't really interact much with our heroes and seems like a minor character to the story. The excellent title lead us to believe that the plutarch's staff is the MacGuffin of the book, which it isn't, and in fact is just a minor plot that come and go in a couple of pages which really makes the title a little bit deceiving. André Julliard is excellent as usual, but Antoine Aubin is the superior artist in my opinion. Overall, a good read. Not excellent by all means but satisfying all the same.
