Q: Will this be good for a ka bar?

Yes, But the K-Bar blade should be in excellent condition,because this is a very fine finishing stone for that mirror finish.

Q: What is the main abrasive in this stone?

The natural "Ocean Blue" Tsushima whetstone was supposidely quarried from a now closed underwater mine near South Tsushima Island. It is implied that this is a natural stone and not man made. As far as the exact type/material of stone, I have not been able to find any conclusive information on this nor any information on the mine itself. Out of all my stones, this one is probably my favorite. It is dence, yet forgiving. I use it as a polishing stone after using my ceramic shapton stones to sharpen my edge. I would say mine is more like an 8,000 grit, but that's not to say the stone you get couldn't be closer to 12,000. They are natural after all.

Q: Is this for sharpening or honing or polishing?

It is mostly for honing and polishing; with a proper preparation (a 6-8K stone), this jnat will produce a mirror, razor sharp edge.
