I did some research, and found this supplement. I liked that the calcium came from a plant source, and that it also includes magnesium, strontium, vitamin D, and vitamin K which all work together to strength bones. When taking each of these separately, you can't be sure you are taking the correct proportions of each so they work together and compliment each other. For example, taking strontium alone can make the bones look stronger on the outside when getting a bone density test, but can leave the bones hollow. This can still leave the bones brittle. In the correct amounts strontium works with the other ingredients in this supplement. At any rate, 6 years ago, my bone density test showed a rating of -2.5 (osteoporosis) in my hips and back, and I was experiencing knee, lower back and hips aches and pains almost constantly. Within 6 months of starting this supplement, my knee pains stopped completely. I could go down stairs without the worry of shooting pains in my knees. Since then, I have had bone density tests done every 2 years, as suggested, for the last 6 years. In that time, most areas have improved from -2.5 to -1.4. I know some of the reviews make it sound like taking this supplement will show an almost overnight improvement, but that isn't very realistic. Our bones don't lose density overnight, and they certainly won't rebuild overnight - it takes time. For me, it is encouraging to know that at my age of 74, my bone density has improved quite a bit over the last 6 years and has not deteriorated. This is good enough for me.

I didn't want to leave a review for this item until I completed my follow-up DEXA Bone Scan. Well, the results are in and I have had noticeable improvement in my bone density. The quality of this supplement and the ingredients feel superior to other brands that I have used previously. I divide my daily dosage into an AM and PM dose for maximum absorption. The caplets are easy to snap in two, and most importantly, these are very easy to swallow.

UPDATE Best calcium supplement on market. My calcium level are finally where my doctor wants. I have no trouble taking these 4x per day. Unlike others there is no aftertaste (common in other similar plant-based capsules), very easy to swallow and effective (confirmed by blood tests). This is the reason why I changed rating from 4 to 5. I developed severe osteoporosis resulting in multiple fractures of my shoulder, ankle and concurrent wrist and femur (I was returning home from the hospital after knee replacement surgery and fell getting out of the car despite using a walker). I ignored a diagnosis of osteopenia 20 years ago PLEASE pay attention and avoid my path! My review is based on personal experience and advice from endocrinologists at Yale Medical Center and Mayo Clinic, an orthopedic surgeon at Hospital for Special Surgery in NYC and a rheumatologist at John Hopkins. I recommend this product after using this product for 6 months at 4 pills/day =1200 mg total calcium (NOT the recommended dose on bottle). My calcium levels are only slightly below the recommended range. But much better than the consistently very low levels of calcium found (after 6 years) trying other brands containing calcium carbonate. Supplements contain different sources of calcium. The calcium in this product is from plant, specifically a red algae. This form is readily absorbed with or without food. You can also find synthetic calcium as a salt such as calcium citrate, maleate or carbonate. The carbonate is found in lower priced brands since it is more cheaply manufactured - and very difficult to absorb - than say calcium citrate which is more expensive. Bottom line, to be effective, any calcium supplements must include: *Absorbable calcium (plant based or synthetic) *vitamins D and K and * be absorbed in the gut at no more than 400 mg per dose. This is important - You must have absorbable calcium (from plant or algae or as a different calcium salt than the carbonate salt which lower priced brands usee and at a dose of no more than 400 mg/3x per day. In addition to being impossible to swallow, the 1200 dose just isn't absorbed by the gut - just wasting $- believe me from personal experience and from specialist advice (whose research have proven this). In addition too much calcium is harmful in addition to being constipating. Also remember that this disease requires a multi prong approach drug +diet +excersize +Supplemental calcium. I have been taking for 20 years keeping my bone in goof condition

Ordered both the Bone strength and Omega vitamin. Omega vitamin was fine but the Bone strength cover was chipped and broken.

These capsules contain plant calcium, magnesium, Vitamin D3 and K2 and K1, which are needed for my bone health.

Have been taking New Chapter bone supplement for 3 months- too early to tell if bone density is improved, but I am so happy I can take a natural supplement .
