BEST SHARPENING TOOL I HAVE FOUND - Every Garage with garden tools needs one!
Best Sharpener I have found. Easiest to use sharpening tool that I have been able to find. I have used this multiple times to sharpen loppers that had nicks in the blades, takes them out and sharpens every time. I also use this for my everyday pocket knife that gets a lot of abuse. In spring will be using it on my lawnmower blade. Works so well I just ordered another one for my father-in-law as a Christmas stocking stuffer.

Great and handy tool!
I needed a sharpener for garden tools. I purchased this one and found it super easy to use! Used it on kitchen knives and several outdoor tools and results were terrific! The guard keeps your hand safe and just a few swipes and you can feel the difference on any blade. So glad I bought two of them!

Good, within its limitations
Used it for the first time this week on two blades from my Toro Timecutter zero-turn radius lawnmower. I didn't find it necessary to hold the blades in a vice: I wore leather gloves and with one hand held the blade on a piece of wood while drawing the tool along the blade with the other. It took a few passes to get the feel for it, but once I got the proper angle the tool did a fair job of sharpening the blade. Contrary to the instructions, I found it necessary to exert some force on each pass, with the recommended "light pass" not being too effective. But in the end, the blade was sharp. PROS: Easy to use, cheap, effective. Unlike a bench grinder, this tool does not remove a lot of metal, which is probably the reason that both blades were almost perfectly balanced after sharpening. Also, the blades should last longer, since so little metal is actually being removed. CONS: May not be robust enough to sharpen an extremely dull blade or one with significant denting or pitting. UPDATE - ONE YEAR LATER: In general, the "cons" (above) turned out to be true, and I have found that extended heavy use of this item takes a toll. I still like it, but in sharpening heavier items, e.g., scythes, hatchets, it is possible to apply too much pressure, and after awhile the two plastic handle halves will start to separate (can be fixed, by tightening the screws in the handle). Also, after heavy use both sharpening edges appear to be the same size-- remember, the bigger of the two sharpening edges is supposed to face the beveled edge of what you are sharpening. If you're going to routinely sharpen lawnmower blades, axes, hatchets, and scythes, you might want to get something more robust. But for light work, and occasional heavy use, this item is recommended.

It does the job.
This little tool did a great job on my lopping shears. It seems durable and was reasonably priced.

Good for some purposes and not good for others
By design this is good if your trying to sharpen long surfaces but not for small tools. The issue is that for a lot of small tools, like hand pruners, its very hard, if not impossible, to get the sharpener in place. Also for hand pruners and other small weeding tools because you have to start at one end and drag the sharpened down the edge to sharpen this means that side you start on your not quite able to get to the very end. This small starting area does not make much of a difference over a long area but for a 4" edge I feel it does. I do kind of like the tool and am thinking for the small weeding tools possibly buying a additional one and changing the side the carbon blade is on. This way you could make say three - four passes in one direction and then swap sharpeners and make three - passes the other direction which would even out the edge from, say, right to left. However, this would double the cost and I'm not sure a) if the carbon blade can be moved and b) how well it would work given the directions are to go in only one direction. So, I think I will keep the sharpener for dealing with tools that have long edges and stick with the Corona carbon blade tool sharpener, which I highly recommend, for the smaller tools and taking any burr off the reverse side. Other issue that I found is that the side with the carbon sharpener is not clearly marked which given that point of the tool is sharpen just one side is annoying, at least to me. I fixed this with permanent marker but don't think that should have had to do that.
