A Reliable 4G Router with Room for Tweaking
I recently purchased the TP-Link MR-100 4G router, and it has been a great addition to travel internet setup. If you’re looking for a no-frills option to get reliable internet without broadband, this router is a solid pick. What I Like About It: Quick and Easy Setup: Just insert your 4G SIM, plug it in, and you’re ready to go—no technical expertise required. Reliable for Streaming and Browsing: Delivers steady speeds that are great for Netflix, YouTube, and even light gaming. Decent Range: 2.4Ghz - Covers my villa well, even with multiple walls in between. Wired Connectivity: Ethernet ports are a big plus for devices that work better with a stable wired connection. You can choose between 4G & Wireless mode (WAN port is also available) Portable and Lightweight: Perfect for travel or as a backup internet solution. Indian 4G Bands – Key to Better Speeds: The MR-100 supports major Indian LTE bands used by providers like BSNL, Jio, Airtel, and Vi. Here’s a quick breakdown: Example : (Varies by network operator) Band 40 (2300 MHz): Best for high-speed 4G in cities and urban areas. Band 3 (1800 MHz): A versatile band offering a balance of speed and coverage, suitable for semi-urban and rural areas. Band 5 (850 MHz): Perfect for rural areas or places with weak signals due to its excellent range and wall penetration. Pro Tip: For the best speeds, you might need to manually test and lock the router to specific bands. The router automatically switches between bands, but manually tweaking can make a big difference depending on your location and carrier. A Note About Speed Complaints: While researching, I noticed many people in the comments complained about slow speeds, likely because they didn’t understand how to manually tweak the bands. If you’re unfamiliar, look up guides or tutorials to help you configure the bands. It’s not difficult, and it’s definitely worth the effort to get optimal speeds. Final Thoughts: The TP-Link MR-100 is a great 4G router, especially for users who don’t want the hassle of broadband. It’s reliable, portable, and works well once you set it up correctly. Spend some time adjusting the bands for your area, and you’ll see the performance improve significantly. Highly recommended for both primary and backup internet needs! PS : I'm an expert in tweaking routers & setting good configurations. Please do understand how the bands work and network congestions before you start complaining something. Be realistic of urban vs rural internet speeds. Buying a MR-200 or upper models won't resolve the speed issues in your area. If you are having low speeds even after tweaking, it's only due to congestion/unavailability of superior bands in your area.

Terrible Product, Do not recommend
TL;DR, This is a terrible, terrible product. Stay away. I bought 2 of these and a gigabit loadbalancer to setup faster internet at my home, Now within 10 days, I have returned both of these routers. This router has multiple issues in it's hardware and software. Pros, 1. Easy to install 2. You can get 20-50mbit speeds if your ISP supports Band 3 + 40 or 5+40 and you get good speeds on these bands in this config. Cons: 1. QoS on this router is a complete joke. They are not doing QoS at all, What they are doing is asking you to enter expected amount of bandwidth and then reserving a percentage of that bandwidth for high/med/low priority users. This is not QoS and since it's a LTE router that you'll be using with a SIM card, You will probably never know the _expected_ speed you'll get at any given point in time. If you enter a higher or lower value than your actual speed, that crops up more issues. 2. IP/MAC Binding or DHCP IP reservation does not works. The DHCP server is unaffected by IP/MAC binding or DHCP IP reservation settings. 3. CPU in this thing is extremely weak. At night, I was able to get 90-100mbit speed in 3+40 config but if I enable Traffic monitor or QoS or any of the _advanced_ features on this device, The bandwidth drops significantly probably because the CPU can't keep up with the traffic and keeping all those features active at the same time. 4. The web UI in this is horrible and has a lot of bugs in Firefox/Safari. 5. The RSSP/RSSQ/SNR values in Advanced->status are refreshed very infrequently and there is no auto refresh in this page. If you are on a roof trying to adjust the antenna so you can get best signal, Doing that with this router is very problematic and takes a lot of time, simply because you aren't getting the updated values fast enough and there is no auto refresh. 6. The LTE modem or which ever other bit is responsible for signal reception is extremely flaky. At one point, You could be getting what I would consider extremely good signals and in a second with no change in the router position or anything, the signal quality gets significantly worse and then gets back to where it was again. This just keeps happening with both of my routers. 7. Setting your APN to use IPv4&IPv6 breaks IPv6 on this device. Some of my clients get IPv6 address, Some don't. Even the clients that do get a IPv6 address can't talk to any IPv6 enabled machine on the internet. 8. Wifi coverage in this router is meh. Don't buy it with high expectations there. 9. There is no support for Bridge Mode although there are hacks around it. 10. The Antennas that come with the router are of poor quality. The plastic of antenna is not attached very well to female SMA connectors so after installing them on the router, the actual antenna still moves freely about +-30 degrees. Just the plastic antenna moves, The actual connection around female SMA port doesn't. This happens on both of routers. This is trouble some as it can effect LTE signal quality. 11. Even though they say, It supports Carrier aggregation and Yes, It does. I have only been able to get CA to work on Band 1+3, 3+5, 3+40, 5+40. Using a old beta firmware from April, I was able to get these CA's working but nothing else works. There is no 40A-40A CA support on this router so careful about that. 12. Router startup takes a lot of time i.e. Around 2-3 minutes. 13. There has been no word on 40A-40A CA support on this device and it's developers have been silent on the issue annd the TP Link forums have not been very helpful. 14. There is no way to save incoming messages to sim card or transfer them all to sim card in one command. If you want to preserve a copy of received messages, The only way is to forward them to another number, one by one. And the UI is so slow. Extremely annoying experience. Overall, I'd say avoid this device. Get a Huawei device if you don't have issues with made in china or a LTE device made by one of the companies in EU. Skip this. They _may_ fix these issues in V2 hardware version of this device but it's not like they'll replace this crappy V1 version of this device with V2. :/ Skip it, Get something else.

Very good Device
I am simply amazed with the performance of this Device. I wish I had not wasted money and time on Optical Fibre based WiFi System, which is a painful experience for over 3 years. Service of Airtel Franchisees are so appalling. Glad I installed this wonder gadget which is working wonderfully in a very remote hill/river valley where mobile signal of Airtel is also very weak. I got a Jio 5G SIM Card and am very pleased. I recommend this gadget/Device to everyone who may be facing problems with other WiFi Systems.
