Kershaw Pure Komachi 2, 9 Piece Block Set

I'm not a professional cook, and most of the time I don't even have anyone else to cook for. That said, I'm becoming more and more engrossed in the ways of the kitchen, and these are adorable- yes, that was my biggest selling point when I bought these babies. Now that I've used them, the only thing I would say could stand to be changed is the size of the block-- it does seem to take up a bit more space than it needs to. These arrived quickly, very sharp- they sliced through a not-too-ripe avocado skin like butter, and made very quick work of bell peppers- and absolutely gorgeous. It's the first thing everyone seems to notice about my kitchen now- this rainbow of high-quality kitchen knives in a great (if big) clear plastic block that really shows them off. Maybe my cooking will get as much attention as these do someday!!! There's no wonder these haven't gotten a single one star review thus far- and more than 80 five star reviews. HIGHLY RECOMMEND! UPDATE: 5/6/2014: I bought these on October 25, 2012 (thank you Amazon, I never would have remembered the date) and, a year and a half (give or take) later, I have been using them, on average, every other day, and have had no need to sharpen them. The color is still solid, they are still good quality and attractive, and I have found that the clear knife block can actually be taken advantage of for decorating purposes- small decorative pieces inside make a surprising and adorable statement. I played with my rubber duck collection in this way, and have gotten nothing but compliments. Work with what you've got! If you're in a small kitchen or camper trailer, go ahead and buy the knives without the block, but if counter space is not your number one concern, I say go for it!

These are great knives! I was working with an old set of "miracle" knives for many years, mostly grabbing the steak knives for every job. I think you could have sat on them and not hurt yourself. I need to handle these new knives very carefully because they are very sharp. What a help when preparing meals! I love the colors and I have had no trouble with any rust (I hand wash and dry them immediately). The only thing I don't like is the holder. It's huge and takes up way too much counter space! To remedy that I have ordered a magnetic knife rack and these knives will look to pretty against the wall. Another reviewer said to keep bandaids close by and I have to second that. Not being used to sharp knives, I have gotten a few cuts along the way, but they are worth the learning curve. Update: To relieve the space issue of this set of knives, I purchased a magnetic knife strip from Amazon. Voila! They look beautiful and every knife fits perfectly. Now they are handy to my cutting board and a great decoration to the kitchen.

4.5 stars. Sharp. Almost no effort to cut through anything. You better practice safe cutting. Ergonomic fit handles are great. Was a bit concerned with the light weight initially, but so far so good. A few knives will get more play than others. 6.5 inch Santoku is the perfect all-around knife. I like the 3.5 inch utility because it's so versatile. First time I had used sandwich knife. Who knew it'd be so awesome. Sliced thru a multi-layered masterpiece without squishing and making a mess. Fun colors. Very impressed overall. The -0.5 star is for the huge acrylic base. Chews up a lot of counter real estate and when replacing a knife in the slot, you can get the scratchy metal on plastic action if you don't align perfectly.

Having read every review I could find on this knife set I finally bit. And BOY AM I GLAD I DID! I LOVE these knives! I own a super nice (and posh) set of Henkels but needed to buy a set for our NYC apartment and didn't want to ship over all of our stuff but we needed more than a couple little Ikea bits and pieces for our kitchen. They are lighter (and MUCH sharper) than our Henkels but since I know they would be from reading the reviews, (and visiting KAI's website), I was a pro with them from the beginning and the set features every knife you could need and even a couple you may not. Read the instructions and never wash them with anything abrasive. I usually keep a wet cloth to use when knifing to wipe them down after each use. The base block is really cool as being translucent the fun and bright colors are easily set into your design decor. And I've read the complaints about the size of the block and while I agree is is really big I understand why, (and feel it is a must have). You do not want your knives rubbing up against each other or anything else in your drawers - it will surely mar their beauty and take away their sharpness. For the price point there is nothing that comes close to these beauties and I imagine I will reach for these over and over again with a bit of a smile at the whimsy and a laugh in belly at the goodness they'll help me prepare! Sharp, Inexpensive, Beautifully crafted. What more could you want?

The knofes are outstanding and great, they work greatly for any kind of job required and they are pretty as well

I love these knives except the paint chipped off.

I was very much looking forward to finally getting this set. It arrived and to my dismay what was delivered did not match the pictures. I wanted to get these knives to be on a magnetic knife holder along our wall. The Santoku knife was not light pink as per the pictures but was black. Also as the picture i've uploaded show, the purple bread knife had paint chipped off, the block itself had been chipped as well. Had to return it first thing. I didn't even use it, too bad really.
