Great product
Love this color, I use it every few months and it lasts the whole time. It IS messy and it's going to stain whatever it touches so I suggest covering your bathroom and your skin. I use gloves, put vasoline around my temple and wear and old long sleeve shirt. I save up cardboard and packaging and literally cover my bathroom like a serial killer but...it works and the results are worth it because I've tried all kinds of other companies (not sure I can name them here) and Splat is the only one that gives me deep, rich colors that last until I re-dye them months later. If you change colors often then this isn't the right type of dye for you.

Great colour when used correctly - 10/10
My hair is naturally pretty dark and I've never found another product that would actually show up on it without bleaching. This has worked every time. I've also tried the Midnight Tanzanite, it showed up, but less, and was closer to a blue than a purple. I tried the red, too, once, but it faded to a shade that wasn't good on my skin so I'm sticking with the Midnight Amethyst. I do it about every 6-8 weeks and I honestly think just putting layer over layer has given it more depth and dimension than I had the first few times. I've used this shade of Splat for a few years now & I get more compliments than I ever got from anything a stylist did so I'm sticking with it. The thing is, you have to do it correctly or you'll end up with all the complaints you see in these reviews. If you have patience, you end up with good colour that will last many washes and won't leave stains everywhere. It's still a depositing colour (not one that actually enters the cuticle of the hair) so no, you don't want to get caught in a rainstorm but it doesn't need to stain your pillowcase either. Def use a junky towel to dry it the first few times but I rarely get anything stained anymore. Here are my recs: 1: Leave it in longer than it says, esp for very dark hair. Based on the instructions, I should leave it up to 45min; I regularly leave it in another 10-15 min. This gives you a little extra "buffer" for when you go to rinse it out so you don't lose as much in the first wash. It's best if someone else applies it, either way stop about 1/4" away from the scalp. It will expand & seep to the roots anyway and it leaves less left on the scalp, which you'll see is better. 2: Cover it with a plastic cap/bag while it processes. The warmth opens the cuticle & lets a tiny bit in which helps it last. Also then it doesn't drip on your face while you're waiting. Get gloves that are close at the wrist, like at the doctor's office. They give you a pair with the kit but they stick out all stiff & make it harder to keep things clean. 3: Plan to spend a LOT of time in the shower to rinse it out and expect it to look like a crime scene in the process. I put my showerhead on the highest pressure with the water as cool as I can stand and put my head back & just rinse & rinse & rinse. I wear gloves in the shower so I can use my fingers to work the product off my scalp, which is where a lot of it will end up. Rinse the shower every few minutes, too, it'll help keep it clean..er. lol 4: Use a low or neutral pH shampoo, and (gloves still on) lather it up, mostly into your scalp - NOT your actual hair (overall general good rule anyway). The hair is where you want the colour to stay & enough shampoo will trickle there to clean it. Most of the "weeks later I'm still getting stains" is from what's left on the scalp, I promise you. I didn't used to wash it as thoroughly or rinse as long and it makes a difference. 5: High pressure, cool water, rinse rinse rinse rinse rinse. If you've been thorough, your water will *almost* be clear now. If not, and if there's still a lot of colour, do another light shampoo and rinse more. The conditioner they give you in the kit is fine. My hair is shorter so it lasts me a few washes but def use *some* sort of light conditioner. 6: BE SURE TO END WITH COOL/COLD WATER - EVERY TIME YOU WASH IT. I despise a cold shower but to keep my hair nice I gut up & use cool. That will help more than you can imagine. Here are 2 shots of my hair with this product, one in full sun and the other inside (IDK what the white outline is about, it's from my stylist). The price here is about what I used to pay at the bullseye store but nobody seems to carry it anymore IRL so here we are. Price is very fair for how much I like it (and considering the hundreds I'd have to pay a good stylist). I love my Splat and will always recommend it to folx who will take the time to do it right.

Rubs off if u donât wash right -Color IS accurate
Ive read a lot of reviews saying this dye fades to a bright blue but I have not come across that issue at all and it has been almost a month since dying it. I previously had parts of my hair lifted to a level 8 and the rest was naturally a level 5, so I did a bleach wash, lifting it to around a level 6. I wanted a dark green almost black on those parts and lighter where the higher levels were. This dye worked perfectly for that. Do your research & know how to maintain your hair and it will reward you! I double shampooed it for the first 2 hair washes after dying and i completely saturated my hair (and scalp) in conditioner for those washes to lock in the color. it DOES wash out blue and will stain your skin and shower. (blue+yellow= green - this shade is more heavily blue toned if you know your colors!) Use gloves to wash your hair for the first few times! Definitely wear black or dark colored shirts for the first week or two because it will rub off on your clothes. I wore a black bonnet to sleep so it didnât rub off on my pillowcase and sheets. the dye that rubbed off onto my clothes did come off in the wash (cold)-but i wouldnât let it sit for more that a couple days like that

It is very messy, despite taking precautionary measures. I left it on for an hour over my virgin level 4-5 hair and it left a subtle green hue, except it stained my scalp blue. I wouldnât recommend Iâm still rubbing it off my neck and hands because it transfers and leaves a chalky residue on the hair and this is almost a week later Iâm still getting this. It also doesnât last long at all pretty much faded after 1 wash.

If you put conditioner in color you can lighten shade. Midnight magenta is my favorite đ makes neon pink đ

I have been using this for the past 1.5 years and I use it as a treatment for my hair + hair color! The shine and softness it provides is amazing, it has helped my hair grow faster whilst giving it a wonderful color. I have dark brown hair and I am completely against bleaching! So when I started applying it, it gave me a tint kind of effect which I was happy with. I love it because it stays on my hair for almost 40 days and even when it gently wears off, in the sun it will still have its effect! It covers the white/grey hair but since itâs not permanent it will wear off after some time. This time when I used it the color really stayed because my personal hair color has lightened up due to constant exposure to sea salt and the sun⌠so my hair is really really purple and I love it! It rarely stains, it only does when the hair is so wet but the beauty of it is that it easily washable not like other dyes where it really remains. I highly recommend this brand especially the one which doesnât need bleach and doesnât have bleach! All natural â¨
