"Nite Ize" "Cam Jam;" Just One More Of Their Amazing Products, I Highly Recommend
All "Nite Ize" products are awesome. These are snap hooks with a "Jam Cleat" mechanism incorporated. These are VERY well built. "Nite Ize" is totally pro, and totally reliable. There are 4 versions of these "CamJam" "Cord Tighteners." #1 Nite Ize Camjam Small Cord Tightener 2 Pack ("sturdy, durable nylon") Cord Capacity = 1.8mm to 3mm, (Load Capacity = not stated) http://www.amazon.com/Nite-Ize-NCJS-01-2R2-CamJam-Tightener/dp/B00BKVPXXM/ref=sr_1_1?&s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1436561462&sr=1-1&keywords=CamJam+Small+Cord+Tightener&pebp=1436339926086&perid=17ZQKXCMAG65YNVS1Q1H This review is about this version #2, below. #2 Nite Ize NCJ-02-01 Cam Jam ("sturdy, durable plastic") Cord Capacity = 1/16” - 3/16” or 2mm to 5mm, (Load Capacity = not stated) http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005PU5XK2?redirect=true&ref_=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_54 #3 Nite Ize CamJam XT - Aluminum Cord Tightener ("durable cast aluminum") Cord Capacity = 1/16” - 3/16” or 2mm to 5mm, Load Capacity = 280 pounds or 127 kg http://www.amazon.com/Nite-Ize-NCJSA-01-R8-CamJam-Aluminum/dp/B00KSKY3PA/ref=sr_1_cc_1?s=aps&ie=UTF8&qid=1436562488&sr=1-1-catcorr&keywords=nite+ize+CamJam+XT+-+Aluminum #4 Nite Ize NCJLA-01-R3 CamJam XT Aluminum Rope and Cord Tighteners, Large, Black ("durable cast aluminum") Cord / Rope Capacity = up to 3/8 inch or 9.5mm, Load Capacity = 500 pounds or 227 kg http://www.amazon.com/Nite-Ize-NCJLA-01-R3-Aluminum-Tighteners/dp/B00XVP9ZPM/ref=sr_1_1?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1436562488&sr=1-1&keywords=nite+ize+CamJam+XT+-+Aluminum&pebp=1436340979376&perid=1PNS2XBAH4XKQZVBAARD Features and Characteristics: Tie down hook, easy to use. For cord sizes: 1/16 inch to 3/16 inch or 2mm - 5mm (2mm - 5mm is molded onto the surface of the cam) Very rapid deployment. Just pull in-line - away from the hook - to tighten. Very rapid removal. Just pull to the side to release. Reliable and secure, will hold very well. These are designed for "light loads" only. The company doesn't state a capacity. Search Amazon for other "Nite Ize" products like the "S-Biner" (I have about 80 of these in sizes: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, ( all Steel), and in plastic I have sizes 0, 8, & 10. These are all similar to "carabineers," except these have 2 gates and a central diagonal bar which together define two separated capture regions. These bind, but still separate cords, ropes, rings, etc. into 2 sections in one device. There are numerous versions: locking, bottle opener, LED light, key ring, plus combinations of these features. "Nite Ize" has many more products that may help you, and that make solid, useable, high quality, thoughtful gifts.

good for securing gear to a jet sled
bought these so i could use 550 paracord to tie down gear on an ice fishing jet sled and they are working great for that. much quicker than tying knots, and they are robust and work well

Light duty but reliable
These don’t have a specified load capacity in the literature, so I ran a basic test using a one-gallon jug of water tied by its handle with a length of well-used 550 paracord. I bought a 4-pack and tested each one by lifting the jug and bobbing it up and down to simulate light wind gusts on a tarp. All the cord tighteners held the load reliably without noticeable slippage. I didn’t test beyond around 25# surges or an 8-9# static load, but they at least held up to that. In contrast, I had purchased a 6-pack of knockoff devices that looked identical in the Amazon ad. Only one of the six knockoff tighteners managed to lift the jug under similar static 8-9# load conditions. Using two of these might work for hanging a kayak or even a bicycle in a garage, but for a few dollars more, you might want to go for the next grade up with aluminum or zinc alloy construction for heavier loads. To be clear, these are very functional for light-duty use and very convenient, though CamJam offers better options for more demanding tasks. Update: I found that if I wrapped the paracord through the routing hole and around the fixed end of the gate spring then back through the routing hole before pulling it into the clamping mechanism the device can hold roughly 30# of tension reliably. The weak point in this configuration is the 180-degree curved hook the gate spring closes on. I can easily see that curve distorting at that point. I definitely trust these little cord tighteners but personally will not load them past 10 to 15#. The 280# and 1500# break strength (100 and 500# working load) aluminum models are not that much larger.

Perfection
Alright, so I picked up this 4-pack of Nite Ize CamJam Cord Tighteners, and honestly, they're pretty slick. I'm not exactly a knot-tying wizard, and trying to get a tarp taut when it's windy is usually a comedy of errors. These little guys totally solve that problem. The carabiner design is what caught my eye. Just clip it onto whatever you're trying to secure, run your cord through the cam, and pull. It locks right in place, no fuss. And if you need to adjust it, just release the cam and slide the cord. Super simple. I used them to tighten down a tarp over my firewood, and they held up great. They feel sturdy, even though they're lightweight. I like that you can use them in a couple of different ways, either looped around something or fixed in place. That flexibility is a plus. The size is perfect too, small enough to throw in my camping gear or toolbox without taking up much space. And the fact that you get four in a pack means I've got plenty for different projects. Honestly, for anyone who struggles with knots or just wants a quick and easy way to secure things, these CamJams are a no-brainer. They've definitely earned a spot in my outdoor gear. Nite Ize seems to know what they're doing with these practical little tools.

I dont know how i lived without these!
Wow! I have needed these my entire adult life. I have been boating, motorcycling, and camping for thirty years or more, and that includes lots of rope, cords, and knots. Every year i review my knot tieing book before boat season, but in 20 years, my memory continues to forget knots. I can do square knots and some clove hitch variations, but thats all that sticks. These cam lock carabiners are amazing. I saw one on a friend's boat and had to buy some. I use them to keep boat covers tight, to keep the cover hem line taught, and to adjust fender rope heights quickly. They are great for blue tarp hanging, strapping stuff to cargo carriers. Get some paracord and the possibilities are endless. I bought 4 plastic can jams for light work, and 4 aluminum for heavier loads. The aluminum ones come in 2 sizes. The large are for 1/4 Inch rope and up ( boat stuff). The regular small ones are for paracord. Expensive, but worth the functionality. Get one to try!

Nifty and easy to use
Couldn’t be any easier to use. Have to retighten fot a canopy to maintain tension but i think its the paracord stretching, or the tension needed is too much for the plastic. Might invest in the aluminum model but still going to keep the plastic ones around!

Durable and they work as they should
We have bought these several times they work great on tarps and or other items such as tents, etc. would recommend and purchase again. They’re also very durable. We have not had one break yet.

Strong, but they have their limits...
Very simple device, easy to attach rope and tighten. But when installing a sun/rain tarp over my patio that needs to be super taut, I found their limits. Pulling my hardest, the rope slipped back through the device a few inches every time. So I'll keep these for lighter tie-down uses, but purchased the heavier duty (metal) version for the tarp, where they work great.
