Sizing is key...
From reading the various user reviews, it is obvious there are wildly different opinions of 'how well' their shirt fit based upon the size they ordered. After reviewing the comments more closely, I think the befuddlement arises, in part, over what the product is meant to accomplish. First of all, it should be stated (again) that this Kanu is sized to be a rashguard, NOT a walk-about tee-shirt. That means it is MEANT to cling snugly over EVERY part of your skin – basically skin-tight without being restrictive. If it can flap in the wind, it’s too loose…if you can’t move freely, then it’s too tight. A rashguard is designed (and sized) to be functional, rather than stylish. And there’s the rub (sorry, bad pun)…very few people actually have a model's perfectly proportioned body measurement. More than likely, many of us are used to buying clothing sizes to visually 'hide' some of our non-proportioned (aka less-than-spectacular) physical features. Get out of that mindset. For better or worse, a well-fitting rashguard should protect your skin, but it won’t make you look slimmer or taller or beefier or anything else. (In short, if you don’t like your ‘look’ standing naked in mirror, don’t blame it on the rashguard!) So how do you order from the size chart when you don’t have those (almost mythical) perfect body proportions? I wondered as well. I’m 6’0”, 180 lbs with a relatively athletic build (43” chest, 34” waist, 15” neck, 34” arm length). Using the Amazon Men’s Apparel Sizing Chart, my chest size would be Large, but my waist would dictate ordering a Medium. I went with the Large and the results in the photo were pretty much dead-on with what I expected. The chest and shoulders fit as they should (comfortably snug). When I first tried on the shirt, I thought it may have been too snug under the arms, but later realized it was simply because we rarely wear shirts this form-fitting in the underarm area. The material provided unlimited movement range in the shoulder joint, which was the most important. As to the waist, the material remained close to my skin, but could have accommodated an individual with a 35” or 36” waist without trouble. You might wish to notice the shirt’s length. As an individual with long arms and a long torso, I thought it was fantastic to finally have plenty of length in those areas, but shorter individuals will probably wonder what they will do with that much extra material. My recommendation is to trust the size range of the manufacturer (apparently 66% of Amazon purchasers thought the same thing). However, if your waist and chest measurements ‘straddle’ size groups (as mine did), make your order based upon the larger of the two sizes. I noticed a couple of user comments about an odd (‘green-ish’) color hue of the grey shirt. I didn’t see that at all in the item I just received, although I might argue that the color has a tint of Platinum or possibly medium Silver. In addition, the material has a slight satin sheen to it, but is far from shiny. Overall, the shirt is very nicely made and looks like it will hold up well - even after a few of my usual tragic spills on water skis!

I really like this shirt
I purchased this Medium shirt in RED, to be a tight fitting rash guard that would protect from sunburn on a three week snorkel trip to the Cook Islands. I am a 54YO male 66" tall, 160#, 40" chest, 38" belly, 12.5" bicep, 12" largest part of forearm, 7.5" wrist, 20" armpit to wrist, neck 16". The shirt was a bit loose in the arms and would flap in the water and on the scooter. The arms were long on me, measuring 20' from armpit seam to cuff. The body was form fitting but not uncomfortably tight. The body was very long and did not ride up and expose any part of the back while snorkeling. The collar is high and helps to protect your neck from sun and was not overly tight.. The very first time I wore the shirt was on a overland hike of about six hours, during which time we were soaked to the skin by heavy rains. On this first use the red color bled onto my backpack and the inner part of my pants where the shirt was tucked in. It did not seem, at least as far as I can tell, to bleed after that when worn in salt water or in open air. Maybe wash it once before you wear it. Temperatures were in the upper 80s and humidity probably at least that high as well, the shirt was very cool and comfortable to wear while out of the water. It also dried quickly after getting out of the water. I am not one to be fashion conscious, but two people mentioned that the shirt looked very nice. Given that I probably only wore it 6-7 times that speaks a lot because I can assure you it was not my physique that was garnering any complements

Kanu Surf Men's Rash Guard Fits Well and Blocks UV
I spent an hour or so reading the reviews and was still having difficulty choosing between L & XL. I have a 46 inch chest, a 36 inch waist and 34 inch arms. The XL would fit my chest, but the waist would be too big. The L would be tight in the chest, but fit my waist better. In the end I ordered a L in RED. Large turned out to be the correct choice. The chest was snug, but by no means too tight and the waist fit perfectly. The arms were a bit too long at 36 inches (came up to my knuckles), but that was not an issue as I folded them over to make a cuff. The shirt was comfortable to wear in the ocean and remained skin tight when wet. I wore the shirt at the beach while vacationing in Aruba this past March. The sun was almost directly overhead at noon (I cast an 8 inch shadow). I also had no base tan to start with. I used spray on SPF 50 on my head & neck and SPF30 elsewhere (my first rash guard and I was not taking any chances). I enjoy snorkeling and spend hours in the ocean, so the sunscreen gets washed off. In past years my shoulders and upper back would get too much sun. Not so this year. I did deduct 1 star for the overly long sleeves. So... The shirt fit well, arrived in two days, prevented any sunburn on the area it covered, and was less than half the price of similar rash guards that were on sale in Aruba. I am pleased with my purchase.
