HOBOT 388
Love it! Note that it comes with 7 pairs of microfiber pads and the electrical extension cord in addition to the normal power supply cord. It's simply awesome. I live in a heavily forested area so the outdoor side of glass is going to have tiny bits of tree pitch and such - for this I run the HOBOT several times until I'm satisfied. At first I followed the directions and ran one set of pads dry if the window was initially dirty and then a second set for the wet cleaning portion. Now I just find running it for a couple complete wet cycles with the same pads works good. I don't directly supervise the HOBOT but do other stuff watching it from time to time. In certain scenarios I use the safety line but I feel the suction is more than sufficient to prevent from dropping and the 20 minute battery backup is re-assuring because my area has higher than normal power outages. Things to be aware of is that it won't do windows that approach the size of the unit - say 1.5' square (I wish they will come up with a little bitty battery operated version for smaller windows). The algorithm isn't perfect (like all robots) - sometimes it gets stuck at the bottom after it's completely finished the entire window (not a big deal for me). Also it can't deal with frameless windows such as the big mirror in the master bathroom - in this scenario I drive by remote which gets the job done but takes time on my part. So if you have a lot of large windows this is simply a must! Strong recommend. - Follow up - The HOBOT will fall - you need to be ready for this eventuality. Fortunately I had the safety line on and saved my beloved HOBOT by millimeters. Here's what makes it fall - moisture in the air like if its been raining but not raining for the last few hours, and beveled edges. On my windows - the outside framing is beveled - the inside framing is square. So no problem inside, but outside when one of the wheels edges up to the bevel it causes the vacuum seal to be compromised so when the force transfers to that wheel its going to fall. Doesn't happen every time but it happens often enough. For me the strategy is having the safety line properly measured out and fixed. This is how I finished my multi story windows on the outside. Also to add to the notes regarding small windows (in my example a 32" x 26" window) - the sensor and algorithm doesn't quite work with this size (and the manual steering doesn't work either) - the HOBOT simply won't do its initial travel to the top and then work its way down - rather gets about halfway up and works its way down. I think this is a math error with the software. Windows that are larger than 3x the size of the HOBOT work properly.

Doesn't Work
It constantly gets stuck in corners, gets confused and cleans only a portion of the window, falls off the window, and just leaves big old streak marks. It's so loud and embarrassing to use in an apartment complex and it takes FOREVER. I'm talking like well over an hour to wash some windows that could be done by hand in less than 20 minutes.

It's working!
I bought this device based on recommendation but was a little skeptical based on the review. Now I am so glad that I bought it. It works great on big windows. Pros: It cleans really well. It took me a little practice to get hold of it. You DO have to dry clean the window first, especially the outside one with a lot of dust. Followed by a few run of the wet clean. Suctions is good. I was so afraid at the beginning that it will fall and shatter on the concert floor. There's no such worry for most of the windows. Minimum effort from human. I was doing other house chore when it cleaned 5 big windows from both side. It can be meditating to watch it runs as well. Cons: Like one other reviewer said, for some windows, it might fall. I have a few old windows with uneven casing. When it stops at the bottom, the robot won't be able to keep the suction because of the casing angle. Because of the cleaning pad is in round shape, 4 corners of the window will not be touched. It can be neglected because the untouched size is very small. In wet cleaning cycle the nozzle sprays not enough amount so wet the lower pad is important. You also need to keep the top pad dry to wipe the window dry. I manually sprayed some in some part of the spot and it worked out great. Remote control label is not clear. During the first couple of runs, I am not sure how to set to clean with dry cycle. It will automatically use the spray. I ended up emptied the water chamber to the dry clean and fill it up during the wet clean cycle. Later on I noticed on the manual it stated checking the light color for the dry/wet choice. I still hope the remote control could have a better indication on selecting Wet/Dry clean. Overall, I am very satisfied by this product.

Washes windows and walls
UPD: It works not bad on internal windows but doesn't work on external surfaces. It just doesn't clean well :( Also as sprinkler is in the right bottom of the washer it doesn't clean several inches on the top and on the left of the window. Attached a photo after ~6 passes. First I checked it with just windows. It worked perfectly. I found that actually my windows were very dirty and I had to replace mop after every surface. Then I checked it with glass doors in bath, I thought it might have issues finding edge but it worked fine again. And the final stage was to check if it can also cleanup walls in bath. And it worked again. I had to slightly push it from time to time but in general it just worked.

Really wanted it to work
I purchased this window robot to clean our many windows in our home. After reading the instructions many times, watching the many Youtube Videos, and trying 10x on one 5-foot by 6-foot window, it never cleaned without streaks. Very disappointed.. Other than not cleaning well, the machine is amazing, sticks to the windows great, easy to use, iphone app, easy to change pads..

I was so excited when I bought this robot. I have plenty of windows to clean and this would have helped enormously. But it didn't. I must admit that it looks good quality. It sticks to the glass super well and it cleans more or less well when it moves around. But: The software is terrible. It moves up and down a little bit and then beeps it has finished (It has actually done a little portion of the window.). Then you restart it... And again in stops shortly after. It gets lost super often, it stops every few seconds. And every time you need to take it down and relocate it sowhere new. It took 30 mins to clean a single window and I had to be there the whole time to relocate it every few seconds. If I had done it by hand it would have been much faster and definitely cleaner. I read the instructions, I searched videos i. Youtube, forums.... Many people have the same problem. The idea was good. But it doesn't work

I bought this from Home Robot in the US for $600 Canadian. At that price, it has been worth every penny. And I think that the more you hate cleaning windows, the more this unit will appeal. Some thoughts, in no particular order: a) Noise level: this is, in a sense, a powerful vacuum cleaner, so it is quite loud. Normal conversation is not possible when the unit is running. I don't see it annoying the neighbours though, since it is no louder than those darn leaf blowers. b) Suction: I was dubious that the device would stick to, let alone climb, windows. But it does, quite convincingly. Climbing the windows requires a pane that is at least 13" wide, however, as stated in the specs. It is possible to clean smaller windows, though (see below). c) Tether: I wasn't sure what to tether the unit to, but I eventually purchased an adjustable shower curtain rod on Amazon, which does the trick perfectly. Simply adjust the rod to the width of the frame (plus an inch or so), and then wedge the spring-loaded rod within the frame. d) Additional protection: if the unit loses suction (see below), it will obviously fall the length of the tether... which could be disastrous if there are obstacles in the way, such as sills. I purchased some cushion foam from which I cut 4" strips to line the window sill. Glad I did (see below). e) Small windows: cleaning small windows: it is possible to clean windows smaller than 13" by starting the robot at the top of the window and then selecting one of the "side-to-side" cleaning modes. f) Loss of suction: while the battery will keep the unit running in case of a power outage, I think a greater danger is that of a loss of suction because of a beveled window frame. This happened to me three times because the window repairer had been extremely generous with the window caulking. The robot simply rode the caulking past the window edge until it lost suction. Moral: watch the robot, ensure that the tether is of sufficient length, and provide some kind of cushion in case of a fall on the window sill.
