The Pursuit of God: Updated Edition Review: a Spiritual Classic - “The pursuit of God” offers a powerful introduction and a compelling invitation to all who would follow Christ more fully. Tozer sets out foundational truth about Christ and what it is to follow Him in a clear and simple fashion, doing so in a way that renews the vision of a committed disciple and draws the heart of one who longs for a closer walk with the Lord. I have read this book a number of times over the years and each time I am both fed and made hungrier still for God to work by His Spirit in my life. Review: In himself, nothing; in God everything. - A.W. Tozer - Tozer is a classic religious writer. He has his way with words and expressions to the most astounding degree. This could be the result of utmost absorption of his mind in God and also his unfathomable gift. The following quote is rather long, but it's worth the read. "The sincere plain man knows that the world is real. He finds it here when he wakes to consciousness, and he knows that he did not think it into being. It was here waiting for him when he came, and he knows that when he prepares to leave this earthly scene it will be here still to bid him good-bye as he departs. By the deep wisdom of life he is wiser than a thousand men who doubt. He stands upon the earth and feels the wind and rain in his face and he knows that they are real. He sees the sun by day and the stars by night. He sees the hot lightning play out of the dark thundercloud. He hears the sounds of nature and the cries of human joy and pain. These he knows are real. He lies down on the cool earth at night and has no fear that it will prove illusory or fail him while he sleeps. In the morning the firm ground will be under him, the blue sky above him, and the rocks and trees around him as when he closed his eyes the night before. So he lives and rejoices in a world of reality. With his five senses he engages this real world. All things necessary to his physical existence he apprehended by the faculties with which he has been equipped by the God who created him and placed him in such a world as this." Chapter 4, "Apprehending God", P. 36,37 I have nothing much else to say except that this work will become world classic literature. Tozer would stand up among men as much as a Steinbeck or a Hemingway of religion. A person would gain so much from reading him and will come out feeling more blessed than ever. "In himself, nothing; in God everything. " Chapter 9, Meekness and Rest, P. 89

Great instruction on drawing closer to God and possessing a stronger anointing
If you were attracted to the title and perhaps the history of this fine author I will say with surety that this work will not disappoint!! It is a book for the serious of heart and desiring to draw closer to God and reap the benefits of communion and a greater anointing. Author A.W. Tozer holds nothing back in his straightforward way of revealing how sin, self, and pride are stumbling blocks preventing true union with God. In each of these chapters the reader will gain greater clarity on how to pursue God and follow hard after Him. His illustration of the Old Testament tabernacle will relay how the interior journey of the soul goes from sin to God's presence. The many sins of "self" will need to be brought to the cross, he states before the veil of true communion can take place. "Self is the opaque veil that hides the face of God from us. We must confess, forsake, repudiate the self life and then reckon it crucified ". As you discover how a defective faith can result in spiritual numbness, too will be the revelation of how obedience can give Inward revelation and acute perception, enabling us to experience God as one pure in heart. Programs and church attendance can still leave one inwardly bankrupt. Tozer exhorts us to get still to wait on God to hear him speak to our hearts. Accept His full Lordship and give forth complete submission. "We will acquire a new view point and mindset and a new power will begin to surprise us". This book, quite frankly, will revolutionize your life if you determine wholeheartedly to be a "doer"and not just a "hearer". These are simple, yet profound principles upon which any believer can follow if they choose to do so. I give this book a five star rating for the quality content and to the point principles. Allow it to change your life forever.

Renewing the mind
This author had a way of putting his finger, ever-so-gently and precisely upon the stinking thinking that keeps us from intimacy with the Almighty. Starting with the fact that this is something our Creator desires and ending with the fact that our fellowship with Him can be unbroken, even in the most mundane, ordinary tasks, Tozer takes the mysticism our of walking with God and makes it simple, practical and attainable for the person willing to make God first. Each chapter is like a devotional, starting with a Scripture passage and ending with a prayer, with great teaching in between. Due to its age, this classic work uses archaic language and quotes the King James Version of the Bible, which may require more concentration for some readers. However, the editors of this updated edition have helped somewhat. From his tone, I imagine the author must have been one of those quiet, reverential people who seem to walk in such peace and tranquility, so patient and kind. If you want to know God that way and live people as you ought to, this is a book that will quietly reorder your priorities and bring your heart into alignment with the one who delight in your presence even more than you knew it was possible to enjoy His! And the best part is that this ebook, like God’s grace to the hungry soul, is free!

Out of all of A.W. Tozer’s books, this one is by far my favorite. It’s not the kind of book you read just once—it’s one you return to again and again, especially in seasons when your hunger and thirst for God begin to fade. Every time I read it, it helps realign my heart and renew my love and desire for the Lord. A truly powerful and soul-stirring read.
