Professional 1 Series 104-BT Compact Desktop Reference Monitors with Bluetooth, Black, Sold as Pair, 4.5-inch Speaker

I'm pleased with the JBL Reference Monitors. I use this with my Rode Podcaster Pro Mixing Board connected with two TRS Cables. I have them connected to my iMac via Bluetooth. They have a small footprint and are designed to sit on a desk. Hook-up was easy. The sound is crisp and and clear. These are designed for reference, not entertainment sound--so you're not getting much bass or modified sound. It's nice to have several input capabilities. You switch between inputs by pushing the selector button. The markings on the indicator are a bit small but it's not a big drawback. The volume control and selector switch have a good solid feel to them. So I'm a happy camper. I was a bit concerned that these were available before the release date listed on other sites; however, the box indicates US and I had no problem registering the product with JBL. I'm not sure about if they would honor the warranty since Amazon is not list, but I doubt if I would have any issues with the speakers. They work great and I don't play them at extreme levels. So I recommend them and I believe the asking price make them a good value.

These are very fine desktop monitor speakers: Pros: They look awesome (I have the white pair, but they come in black as well). The design, while reminiscent of a giant suppository, stands out visually. They are SOLID. Everything about them feels very secure -- so probably, no rattling problems will occur. I doubt they are made of wood (not in that shape!) and whatever material they are using for the enclosure feels solid and firm. They sound very CRISP, CLEAR, and have a good thumping bass. The mid-range is a bit hollow at first, but as the speakers age and condition, this should work itself out. I think it is common to all NEW speakers and even headphones. They have plenty of volume, no problems there. They have excellent stereo separation, making a wide stereo sound stage, even when only a few feet apart. Hook-up was easy. They come with speaker wire, a power cable and a 3.5mm male to two RCA male (red and white) cable to connect to a computer. They also have 1/4" TRS type inputs, as well as Bluetooth, and a 3.5mm input jack on the front, as well as a muting headphone jack. I haven't tried the bluetooth, so I don't know how they perform, with it. CONS: None really. They could sound a bit warmer, but that will come in time through use. OVERALL: A great set of speakers at an affordable price for computer studio monitors. Great for mixing music and vocals into a video. I like them.

Said like new and if possible that is an understatement. Boxed as new and love the sound. Bluetooth set up was pretty eady but I recommend aux in versus the RCA inputs if hard wiring.. Seemed to sound better but the 3.5mm I used was an upgrade. . Seller and product recommended

So I bought these mostly for gaming, music listening and movies. Honestly, I think they're a bit overkill for that, but I don't consider that a complaint. I've seen some reviews regarding the bass response. I can see how that would be true if you're using them as they're intended or for listening to really bassy heavy music like House, EDM, Rap, etc. I'm mostly a rocker and haven't had the same experience. Your mileage may vary, but I've done a bunch of jazz, classic rock, metal and 80's pop... They sound great. The kick drum, bass guitar and low guitar tones are crystal clear. Like I said, they're a bit overkill for multi media use, but they have my full recommendation for anyone looking to step up like I was. I got tired of cheap, flat sounding speakers and I decided to spend a little more on a reliable brand. No regrets whatsoever. Mine do have the annoying startup noise a few other people mentioned and it does suck. I haven't figured out a way to disable it. Other than that, install was really easy and there's no blemishes on the speakers. I'm hard wired so I have no experience with the Bluetooth performance. I only removed one star because of the startup noise. It's really loud and unnecessary and I almost fell out of my seat the first time I turned them on, totally forgot about it.

I’ve been living with JBL speakers for decades — long before Bluetooth, long before “desktop monitors” became a category. I still own a pair of JBL L-100s, and over the years I’ve had JBL-loaded guitar amps that taught me early what real sound is supposed to feel like. So let me be very clear: This review is not coming from a newbie. The JBL 104-BTs are small, yes — but they scream JBL in the best possible way. The stereo separation is stunning. The phantom center is dead-locked. Voices snap into place exactly where they belong, and instruments occupy real, intelligible space. Nothing is smeared. Nothing is hyped. Nothing is “helped.” The bass won’t shake your desk like a subwoofer — and that’s the point. It’s defined, present, accurate, and correct. You hear pitch, intent, and timing, not boom. This is reference sound at arm’s length. What impressed me most is how quickly these speakers disappear. That’s not an accident. That’s design philosophy. JBL doesn’t flatter recordings — it tells the truth. If you feed them something honest (Steely Dan, Bill Evans, orchestral work), they reward you with coherence and realism that’s frankly breathtaking for their size. Robert Pirsig wrote about Quality as something you don’t think about — it simply takes hold of you. That’s exactly what happens here. You stop analyzing and just listen. When a speaker does that, it’s doing something very right. Bottom line: JBL didn’t make a toy. They made a tool — one that reflects decades of hard-earned acoustic wisdom. These 104-BTs carry the same DNA as the great JBLs that came before them. JBL still rules the roost. Anyone who’s been in the trenches long enough will hear it immediately. Highly, unreservedly recommended.

I have always had a good experience with JBL products, which is why I decided to purchase this model. I previously owned JBL UA Flash X Waterproof True Wireless Bluetooth Sport Earbuds and two JBL Link Music Compact Smart Speakers, and they worked great. Unfortunately, this purchase was a huge mistake. The speakers themselves perform well, and I have no complaints about the sound quality. However, after just a few months of ownership, the clip on the back of the powered speaker that holds the wire connecting to the second speaker broke. The spring snapped, and the small plastic piece fell off. Without this clip, the wire cannot stay in place, making the second speaker completely useless. I tried to fix it, but the more I attempted, the worse it got—eventually breaking into pieces. This issue might have been tolerable if JBL’s customer support was helpful. Sadly, it was the opposite. Since this is part of their “professional” speaker line, they refer you to JBL Pro Support, who will do nothing unless you bring the speakers to an authorized pro dealer. If you live in a state without a local pro dealer, you’re simply out of luck. So now, I own speakers that technically work, but I cannot use the second one because of a broken plastic clip—and JBL offers no reasonable solution. Their so-called “Pro Support” is useless. Rating: 0/10 for JBL’s customer support. I will never buy another JBL product again.

I know some of the stuff they sell here is cheaper. Don't send Chinese speakers back to AMAZON. They don't like it much, and we all pay more money because of it. A quick story. These are just BARLEY good enough to not bother with the return process. Overall, the sound quality is very good in the mid range, and they live up to the promise of "studio monitors, catching quite a bit of depth if you're sitting directly in front of them. Once you wander away from the desk however, their punch noticeably decreases. The low range does not perform nearly as well as expected - my first thought when testing them out was "I guess I'm gonna need a subwoofer". The sound quality also suffers at higher volumes - there is a noticeable 'crackle" that occurs at a certain level before even maxing them out. ALSO - this is a nitpick, but it speaks to the overall quality/thought put in to these: the JBL "whooomp" startup noise is insanely low quality, as in, you can hear the bits in this thing. If you're selling "Studio Moniters" you'd think the first noise the end user hears on startup should be, I dunno, studio quality? Also, why are we even putting a startup noise into active/powered speakers? Silly. BIGGEST ISSUE - The Standby feature on these things is HIGHLY aggressive. They shut off after not time at all without audio input, and there's like a 10 second delay AFTER they register sound output before they actually kick on and start making noise. It may not seem like much, but it is wildly annoying. The 10 second delay is more a than enough to miss a "good morning" in a Teams meeting and leave you sitting there like a deaf idiot. TLDR: I went with the cheapest option, and got what I paid for
