Varathane 211776 Premium Wood Conditioner, Half Pint

Most of us that have tried to stain pine know, it's a horrible experience. The varathane wood conditioner made my cheap pine board look amazing. I tested first with and without and the difference is night and day. I highly recommend, it dried quickly and the price was right. Take a look at my mantel piece in the video... it turned out amazing and I am an amateur and am sure I did 100 things wrong. Using the Varathane was definitely one of the things I did right!

This item is hard to find in stores in California, specifically from this brand. This was used for a woodstain wash on a staircase handrail that was painted white by the previous owners. We tried to stain the wood without it after sanding the rail and it did not work out well. This made the difference and the color applied so much better. I never stained wood before so this is coming from someone with zero experienc. It came out looking professional. It is easy to apply. We saved ourselves hundreds in updating our outdated handrail.

Worked very well! I purchased to use on birch plywood and hopefully avoid splotching of the stain. It worked great! Easy to apply. Dries quickly and 30 minutes later I applied a gel stain to the treated plywood. It turned out great!

This did great at reducing the blotchiness that often comes with staining. Easy to apply and quick to dry to allow for staining.

I tackled my project without this and it was a blotchy mess. I totally stripped the wood again and applied this conditioner which made everything perfect. 100% better, the difference between failure and success.

Great Product! After trying two other wood conditioners, a sanding sealer, a shellac and denatured alcohol mix, and a lacquer and lacquer thinner mix, I've found this to be the best product as it has consistent, beautiful, even finish results which, in my opinion, shows off the wood and grain on my new Eastern White Pine floors the best they can be. It allows the stain to penetrate with just enough color and keeps the wood from blotching. It also allows for a longer window of time to stain after applying. I am not getting paid to say this! I've spent about 3 weeks (and a lot of money) trying to get these floors right, and I'm trying spare someone else from going to all the expense and trouble I've gone through.
