Apex 220 is a "Measurement Microphone" which means 1. Has flat frequency response with tailored dynamic range for measurement purposes, not recording; 2. Will require a 12 - 48 volt phantom supply and 3. Has omni-directional pickup pattern. Any of the "Pencil" style electret-condenser microphones out there might be a more appropriate choice for "general" voice or music recording. For it's intended purpose, the Apex 220 is perfect as a signal source for a stand-alone or computer-based audio analyzer.
