Crystal Clear Water Again with These DE Grids I swapped out my old, clogged DE filter grids with this Unicel FS-2004 set, and the difference was immediate—my pool water cleared up within a day. The set includes all eight grids (7 full + 1 partial), so it’s a complete replacement for a 48 sq ft vertical DE filter. Installation was straightforward; everything lined up perfectly with my Hayward filter, and the snug fit reassured me it was made to spec. Performance-wise, I noticed better flow right away. My pump wasn’t straining as much, and the pressure gauge dropped back into the normal range. The grids themselves feel sturdy, with solid stitching and no loose fabric. I’ll be keeping an eye on long-term durability, but for now, the build looks like it’ll last at least a few seasons. One tip: give the filter housing a thorough cleaning before sliding these in. Any leftover DE powder or debris can reduce efficiency and shorten the life of new grids. Also, don’t overtighten the manifold clamp—these fit correctly without forcing. Bottom line: A reliable, well-made DE grid set that restored my pool’s clarity and improved circulation. Worth it for keeping maintenance easy and water looking great.

Fit and value are excellent

The new grid elements were slightly taller, estimate about 1/4", than my old elements, caused problem closing the housing, but that was easily taken care of by cutting off the two interfering plastic tabs on top of the manifold. Otherwise looks to be perfectly taking care of the filtering, nothing getting through the this DE filter now :)

Not so easy to install. Took me a good amount of time to get it installed. Finally figured it out. The way it happened for me was to start placing the black filter top on the floor facing up whereby you can plug the respective filters in the eight slots. Use a rope or bungy cord to keep all the filters in a round otherwise they will not stay upright.

From the moment I opened the package I knew these were high quality products: they were well constructed and the material used were high grade - almost made me not want to use them for filtering out the dirt in the pool. Originally I was planning to only replace the one broken grid and keep the rest. However, the contrast to the old grids was light and day and it made no sense to just replace one or few old ones so I ended up using all 8 of the new grids. The installation was relatively straightforward on my Hayward Pro-Grid DE6020, since I had experience of taking apart and re-assembling the old grids previously. However, if this is your first time assembling the grids it could be tough. The trick is to assemble everything upside down, i.e. put the manifold upside down on the ground and build the "puzzle" from there. When everything is in place then you flip it back. In terms of performance, again, light and day comparison to the old grids. No more DE leakage and the chronic fast buildup of tiny debris in the pool is now a past. Now I spend less than 10 minutes everyday vacuuming my 20x40 pool, compared to having to do it every a few hours when I had the old grids. Also I can reduce the circulation time to around 5 hours without worrying about growth, since the filtration is so efficient and this reduced the energy use significantly. Although I have only installed the grids for less than 2 months, with the build quality of these grids I'm confident they will last a long time. So I am extremely happy with this product and would rank it one of my top purchases not only for the pool, but for anything related to the house.
