Lonely Planet India 18 (Travel Guide) Review: The best and only guide to India that you will ever need! - I finally had to buy a new Lonely Planet Guide to India. My old edition has fallen apart after 8 trips and 18 months in India! Their recommendations of hotels (budget and luxury) and restaurants, tea houses, markets, shops are uniformly on target. Their info re: train schedules is accurate - mostly - but you should always double check anyway. The background info about history, sites and temples is so informative! A few blank pages at the back of the book would be helpful for notes. You cannot survive in India without this book! Review: 2nd Hand Great Price! - 2nd hand, Great Price, Slow Delivery…

Kindle version lacking
The guide was extremely useful while traveling for five weeks through India, as well as in trip preparation. One big downer, the Kindle version had no table of contents or index. I ended up building my own index in notes by searching through my itinerary.

So full of information - practical and informative
Always a fan of Lonely Planet guide books; this one is no exception. Chock full of info, very practical and detailed on helpful hints, practical know hows and informative on history, culture and guidance for a variety of traveler interests. The suggested itineraries are helpful to narrow down options, especially when covering such a large and diverse country. You can't go wrong with LP.

A master in travel guide. Prior edition had more sentimental appeal, cannot define !
Even Indians in India adore the systematic details of this guidebook. A thrilling surprise for themselves!

Older edition
There is a 19th edition now updated with the COVID 19 pandemic in mind. I will buy the new version at same price. Also the copy sent to me was without the pullout card.

Good for do it yourself travelers
A little light on detail but generally useful for a person who likes to arrange things themself.

I bought the Kindle version because it just isn't practical to carry the heavy book version. Extensive info. The only thing about the Kindle version is that it's hard to maneuver to the page that you want to get to. That's likely just something that will take getting used to.

I bought this to inform my trip to India. I referred to this to book destinations, accommodations, eateries, trains and so on. But much more than that - it’s the narrative I like. Very much feels like a mate giving you advice after they’ve just come back. It’s a pretty big book, but worth taking with you.
