Teton 20F and 5F Degree Sleeping Bag; Lightweight, Warm Weather Mummy Sleeping Bags for Adults and Kids, Camping, Backpacking, Hiking

I do quite a bit of camping in the brush. Often 2-3 times a month. I preferably sleep by a fire, directly outside in the elements, and under a tarp or under nothing at all. I use a cheap sleeping pad For comfort and bit of insulation from the ground. With nothing but moisture wicking long johns and wool socks, This bag kept me warm in 18 degrees with 4 inches of snow in the surrounding creek bottom. We woke up to 2+ more inches of snow on the ground. My feet never even a hint of cold weather exposure. They stayed comfortable all night. The micro fleece inside is very cozy and my favorite thing about the bag. I hate sleeping bag materials, So this was quiet a relief. The wind was steady and crept in through the mummy hole, I tightened it down as far as it would crimp up leaving about. 1-2 inch hole for breathing fresh air on occasion. I simply faced the hole away from the wind so I wouldn’t suffocate in the bag or suffer from wind blast through the hole. Excessive wind can just be blocked by a pillow. Aside from the mummy hole - no wind made its way inside. I’m 5’11” with a 31” waist, Medium shirt size - smaller build guy. This bag is as small as I would ever want to go. Almost no room inside once it’s zipped up and I have no more head room hardly at all. My camp buddy made fun of me cause I was sleeping like Dracula Stuffed in a tiny coffin. I like to sit up on my sleeping pad and hang out around the camp fire. This bag made it impossible to sit with my legs crossed, but it has a two way zipper - I just opened the zipper from the bottom of the bag and was able to sit Inside the feet portion with my legs crossed the way I wanted and had the rest of the bag to wrap around me. Before discovering this method - I was super disappointed with not being able to sit Up in my bag comfortably. Although it’s a bit tight - This bag is now my favorite winter bag. I’ve tested It in record lows for my region and it easily passed. It’s also pretty lightweight and compresses in a compression sack extremely well. Highly recommend budget sleeping sack!

Just got my Trailhead 20+ from Amazon for a great price--I was excited when came in (as they were out of stock). So far I like this bag and from other reviews, I expect it will hold up. As other reviewers commented, there aren't a ton of choices in the synthetic, light and reasonable cost category. I like synthetics because I have kids and that means they'll use (or better said misuse) them at some point and better to know you're not ruining an insanely costly piece of equipment, not to mention the wet factor. This bag strikes the perfect balance of everything thing from cost, weight to features. I received the bag this week and immediately wanted to test it. Thankfully we had some mid-20 temps recently, so it made for a perfect testing ground. When I went to bed, it was in the upper-30s and by dawn in the mid-20s. The details on prepping for the evening: I put on a dry base layer (long sleeve top, long john pants, fresh wool socks and a stocking cap). I also slept on an inflatable pad. I was thinking about trying a liner, but I wanted to test the bag for it's rating and that's what I did. More details on this test: - For size comparison, I am 6 foot tall and weigh about 195. I wear a 42-L jacket. I'm not a huge guy, but not small either. This bag comfortably fits me. - The inner bag material isn't slick or slippery. I was actually concerned about this, but it made it easy to move around because the bag stays with your body as you turn. - The footbox has plenty of room, so your feet can move around without feeling cramped or having too much area to move around. - I hung the bag from the loops when I got it out of the box and slept in it the next night, there were no cold spots to notice. Store with the loops if you can (read the directions for any bag for storage). - Really liking the mummy hood drawstring. My old bag has a shoulder and hood drawstring. This simplifies the process and doesn't feel like you're going to hang yourself in the middle of the night adjusting. - The temperature rating does seem to be fairly accurate. I was not cold at 26-degrees (which is what it got to during my test), but I would say that if I were going to go too much more, I'd add a liner. Seems accurate. - Comes with a stuff sack. - Read the care directions if you are considering it, e.g. don't put in a washing machine. Here's the deal, you want to go down and expensive, go that way. Want a synthetic that is of reasonable price and that comes as advertised, this is the bag. I'm interested to find out how it holds up over time, but from everything that I can see to date, this bag is going to be a great investment. Item is as advertised. Happy trekking. Will update as necessary as I use on the trail. --- Update 10/2016 I had a minor issue with the bag. I contacted Teton Sports and they resolved the issue immediately. Another great reason to buy this bag. I still like this bag a LOT.

Overall, I think this is a very, very good bag. It is certainly warm enough to the temps I have tested it in, which is into the 20's. It is certainly quality and worth the money/deal I purchased if for. My only issue with the bag is that, for me, it can be tricky to get zipped up without a struggle. The zipper seems to get stuck frequently on me. Or, it could be user error and I simply need more yoga. Also, and this is more a user preference than an issue with the bag, is that I find myself getting a little claustrophobic at times. I'm not a big guy at 5'10", 180 lbs, but I am a gym rat and have rather wide shoulders for my stature. I find the mummyish design can be a little restraining for me. Foot box is much appreciated and ample for me, however, and like the design and features of the foot box. Again, this is user preference as I tend to like to sprawl out and extend my arms a little more than what the bag will allow. With that said, I will certainly continue to use this bag. I'm a big Teton fan for the quality and value they offer and find the workmanship to be above average, beyond the zipper issue. And like many other reviewers have stated, the inner fabric is very comfortable and unique to Teton, in my experience. It packs down well enough to fit in my Gregory Stout 75 to give an indication of its size for the trail. I find this very acceptable for a cold weather, synthetic bag. If you're looking for a cold weather bag that isn't the total, confining mummy style, while being a great value, I highly recommend this bag.

I received this bag just in time for my boys first campout with their boy scout troop. For reference, for our cub scout campouts I'd been using the same fiber fill sleeping bags that I and my father had when I was a kid in scouts, circa 1980 technology. So I handed those down to the boys and picked this up for myself. It arrived in a much smaller box than I expected - it packs down to about half of those old bags and certainly weighs a good deal less. I do not know exactly how cold it got, but there was ice on the tents in the morning, so I'd guess around 30F. Not much colder. My feet were already quite cold when I got into the bag, but they warmed up after about 20 minutes. I was wearing a t-shirt, long-sleeve shirt, flannel pants and 2 layers of socks. I had a blanket on top of the bag and I was quite toasty warm in the bag...almost too warm. I considered removing the blanket on several occasions. The footbox is a welcome addition compared to my old bag - kept my toes much warmer. The straps and buckles on the bag, for additional compression, is a nice addition as well. The interior lining has a nice soft texture - not like the slippery plastic feel of my old bags. For the price, this is a great bag. I expect to be camping monthly for the next 10 years - if this bag holds up, then it is an outstanding deal. Also to note: I'm about 5'10 and 155 lbs -- there is not a lot of spare room in this bag for someone my size. It is not a tight fit, but I'm definitely not swimming in there, either.

This is a very nice sleeping bag that is comfortable, lightweight, and very portable for backpacking. While it's not the thinnest or lightest, it is a great value and a very high quality product. I bought two of these - one for me, one for my wife - and we have used them in both car camping with my child and also back country backpacking. This bag works great and I am very happy with this purchase. Here are my thoughts: 1. The 20 degree rating is a survival rating. For comfort, add about 20 degrees - call it a 40 degree bag. If it's going to be warmer than that, you can leave the bag partially unzipped. If it's colder, you will need a base layer to help you preserve your body heat. 2. This bag works fine for me as far as size - I'm about six feet and average build. There's plenty of room for my feet (which stay good and warm by the way) as well as tucking in your head if I choose to. I normally leave my head out and just wear a cap if it gets too cold. 3. The bag is very durable. We have used our bags numerous times and there have been no problems with the zippers or the construction. 4. There's no need for a compression sack - this compresses pretty small as is. Again, we love these. It's not the lightest, the most insulated, or the biggest brand name, but it is very good and durable for the price. I highly recommend this to my fellow backpackers without hesitation.

This is more of an unboxing review, and also it is more of a 3.5 star review. Just got this from UPS, opened it up, and got it out of the stuff sack. I hope I am able to stuff it back in because it was a tight fit. I bought this for the purpose of backpacking. It will never see use other than that as I have a nice, large, roomy sleeping bag when space isn't as much of an issue. With that being said, this bag can pack down small and is light weight. They do this by not making the bag much larger than is needed to fit a human inside. I am about 6 foot tall, and weight about 235 pounds and built like a hockey player. I am pretty much a brick... Size 13+ shoes, wide hips and shoulders. I stated all of that to help describe the fitment. It fits like a human condom on me... Normally I sleep pretty spread out with my arms and legs going all over the place. I won't have the space to do it in this bag. It is just wide enough to have my feet apart about four to six inches. It is pretty snug at my shoulders, and enough room in the hip area to wiggle back and forth a bit. So, small fitting aside, the bag is warm. Damn warm. It was low 60's in my living room when I crawled into it, and it took maybe three minutes before I was toasty warm, almost to the point of sweating feet. The insulation they use seems like it will get the job done very well considering there really isn't much around compared to the larger lightweight bags on the market. Another selling point for me was the price. Not many bags are out in the market for under $60 with the build quality of this one. After seeing the fancy high dollar bags that go for $200+, the only thing they would have is more space inside the bag. Pretty sure I will be happy with this sleeping bag out in the field. I also have a Teton sports back pack, as well as my son's sleeping bag. They make a quality product and even offer a lifetime warranty. ******update***** So I took the bag out for a hunting/camping trip to the grasslands of central/eastern Washington state. The overnight temps got down pretty low, maybe high 30's as a guess on the higher side. Once I got shimmied down into the bag, I stayed warm. But when your feet are semi moist from being wet all day, and you are cold and trying to crawl into a tight fitting sleeping bag in a one man backpacking tent, it is a rough experience. If only the bag was just a pinch wider all the way down, it would be perfect. I understand with more bag = more weight and size. But it literally just needs to be maybe two inches wider all the way down to be a wayyy better bag. Once inside, you are kinda screwed if you are a rough sleeper. I roll around, toss and turn, and that is hard to do in a small fitting sleeping bag. I will keep it, and hand it down to my youngest son for when we start camping and I will try to find another bag for myself. I had to drop it from a 4 star (really 3.5) at unboxing to a solid 3. It is a great bag, with great materials and construction, just super small.

I am a former outdoor guide and long distance hiker with three kids, two of whom are in a scout troop and are starting to do some cool weather camping. During a Prime deal, I bought them each a 20F Trailhead bag in the short "scout" size and a 5F Tracker bag from Teton Sports. I wanted something that would be comfortable, durable, and affordable that would also be light enough for them to take backpacking during the warmer months. We tested out the 20 degree bags this week on a fall camping trip with temps getting down to 46F at night. They all reported that the bags kept them warm. We were in a tent in a sheltered area with little wind, and they wore fleece sweatshirts and sweatpants. They are small to medium-sized for their age. With good base layers, socks, and a hat, I would trust these bags in slightly colder weather, but for anything colder than 40, we plan on switching to the 5 degree bags to make sure they stay cozy. We don't plan on doing any winter backpacking with the kids quite yet, so weight won't be an issue when using the 5 degree bags. Overall we are very happy with these bags' performance for the price!

I love this sleeping bag. I have now used it in several different cases and still love it. Pros 1. It compacts very small for a cold weather bag. About 15x8x8 without cinching it extremely hard. 2. It is lightweight and great to carry in a pack 3. It is a very warm bag. I have used it in the low teens and even single digits where I have only added a mummy liner and been comfortably warm. I have used it in a hammock in the 30s without an underquilt and also been nice and warm. 4. Unlike so many mummy bags out there which are extremely loud when you move in them, this material is softer and quieter. 5. The inside liner is soft against your skin and very comfortable. 6. For hammock sleeping this is great because it is fairly narrow and fits well in the hammock. (I added this as a con below as well, however, I love the light weight that comes with the narrow bag). 7. Foot box is great. Plenty of room to move my legs around inside. 8. The length is great for me. I am 5'7" and never find the end of the bag. However, I do think that if I was 6'4 or so I would probably be reaching the end of the bag and be uncomfortable. Con 1. The only real con I have found with this sleeping bag is the space at the shoulders. I am 5'7" and 190 lbs with somewhat broad shoulders. In the hammock I love it because it fits well in the hammock. When sleeping on the ground I find myself rolling from side to side a bit. There is not quite enough room to comfortably roll without some effort. All in all, I have loved this sleeping bag.
