Secretary Desk hinge approved!
Solid hardware, would buy again. Used on a Secretary Desk Project and more than adequate strength to hold weight of 22”x33” desktop. They look great to boot. Would have been easier to mortise in a square end hinge, but can’t complain now that they’re in. If you’re thinking Forster bit for the mortise, it’s an odd metric size diameter and didn’t have a bit and was on a deadline. But if you order the bit with the hinge….

Perfect Hinge
I have been looking for replacement hinges for a Pottery Barn secretary desk and hutch. I went to so many hardware stores with no luck. I ordered 2 different sets and these were more durable and fit perfectly! Very excited to be able to close the desk without worry of the piece breaking off!

These Solid Brass Butler Tray Hinges are Top Quality!
These Solid Brass Butler Tray Hinges are Top Quality! I purchased them to replace the cheap pot metal hinges on a Pottery Barn Allen 18" Folding Side Table. One of the hinges broke, which exposed their poor quality. These Renashed solid brass hinges were a perfect replacement and easy to install. They were more substantial structurally, i.e., thicker, and they were nicely finished. And what's more; they were shipped almost immediately and arrived very quickly. I highly recommend them!

Made them work
Just a bit to long for my use,. However I made it work. I looked at all types that were available and gave this a try. It is sturdy and easy to use in most cases. My drop down dawr face had cutouts for henges. These almost fit. With a little engineering I made them work.

Great replacement!
Perfect fit for my furniture I got from Costco. The material looks sturdier that original hinges.

Measure tray recess.
On my table recess is 3/8", so I returned these hinges. I guess 7/16" recess will allow to install these.

Instructions
My application was a lid for a sewing cabinet. As such, it’d important to have the open lid flat with the base plate. There are no instructions with the hinges. I guessed the back end of the hinge should slightly stick out past the edge of the boards. Wrong. I made a jig to use a router to recess the hinges. I started with a 1.5” drill to establish the radius, the trimmed straight lines tangent to this, used a ¾” bushing for the router and a 3/8” bit. This combination had a slight interference, so I had to use a spindle sander to increase the jig’s radius. Took a few trys to get it perfect. I then took this single jig and reproduced it on a larger board to generate two patterns 10” apart using a router tracer bit. This way, the spacing will be identical on both boards.Once I realized the hinges should not have been past the edge of the board, it would be too late to machine them in deeper. The corrective action did was to make a thin shim and glue it to the edge of the base plate. I was able to experiment with different shim thicknesses to get the exact orientation of the lid when open. The other item I was disappointed in was the lack of any spare screws. It would probably cost them an extra penny or two, but the probability a high percentage of people will either loose on or have a Phillips head get wallowed out (especially with brass screws). My application actually had two lids folding into each other, so I used all 4 hinges.Someone made a comment the hinges produced a sloppy joint. I didn’t see this on my application. I thought the basic hinges were fine.

Everything not included.
They were perfect, except for the fact that they did not include the screws. For which I had to shop for them separately. If I had known, I would’ve bought them at the same time.
