Can you close a hot fireplace flue with these gloves?

I would think so. My current use for them is to pull rods out of a small forge to shape into hooks on an anvil. The iron is in the red-hot state and I'd doubt that your flue lever would be that hot. If it is, you've got a bigger worry than the gloves.
